2) Im not sure what was more irratating – watching us take a night off, or listening to McGuire talk about the Leafs like they will win the cup – I had to continuously mute my TV everytime his lips moved! – annoyance!

This team may have holes, but if Pleks re-ups with Price we’ll need a hometown discount from Markov to have some left over cash to spend on what we save once Hamrlik amd Laraque departures. Take hold, boys and girls, with Les Petites Trois and their contracts, two of which are untradeable, this may be as good a it gets for a while. Beat bets: pray to the deity of your choice for a huge economic recovery to raise the cap. What a disaster Gaoney created by using up all our cap space – our best option to become legitimate – with his Canada Day shopping spree. Gomez contract worst one in the NHL save perhaps for his other target – Cousine Vinny

I think we can safely say that 2007-08 season was the anamoly in the Habs recent performances, and not 2008-09 like they’d want you to believe.

We may be at the bottom, but we’re

a) not in denial about it,
b) not absolutely effed under the cap, and
c) have a few bright spots on the roster and in the system to give us hope.

Also, when I was a kid, whenever I was sick, it didn’t matter whether I had diptheria or the sniffles – my Mom would get me some flat ginger ale and a comic book. If anyone can get my Mom a mailing address for the Monster, I’m sure she would be pleased to send along one of these patented all-purpose heal ’em up kits.

To clear a couple things up

Last Leafs Tandem shutout:

It was the first time Leaf goalies had shared a shutout since Glenn Healy and farmhand Marcel Cousineau in 1997-98 when Healy’s hand was cut in a goalmouth scramble against San Jose.

According to hockey.reference, neither goalie is credited with a shutout for that entire season so I assume that neither Gusatvsson nor MacDonald will receive credit for a shutout for last night.

Back to the Healy story… he was on the radio this morning and said that it was Bernie Nicholls who tried to kick the puck loose and instead skated over Healy’s hand with just 7 seconds left and Cousineau had to come in to finish the game. Not only did Healy not get credit for the shutout, he didn’t even get the win ’cause it was a zero-zero tie.

The rule is the goalie who was in net when his team scored the game winner

Jonas should get the win.

Photo Essay at the Globe

Fred Lum at the Globe and Mail has a fantastic photo essay of shots from Maple Leaf Gardens that he took yesterday: Toronto’s Hallowed Hockey Hall.

The one of George Armstrong craddling the Stanley Cup is great (#10 of 17 in the set – it’s a photo of a photo that hangs in the MLG lobby). I love the way the Leaf crest is reflected back in the Cup.

Photo 11 – the Leafs dressing room – is a bit of a sad one. That room was actually painted over plain white and in terrible shape. It was redone to be a set/photo-op area by the CBC Battle of the Blades crew.

In response to that article on the Leafs haters comments crap...

And the worst thing about them, is that they spout the same nursery rhymes about the “Laughs” and “Laffs” and “1967” and all that bullshit. It gets tiring and a tad bit amusing because it’s just pathetically sad.
