I will take the high road and say this is just a next step in Dr. Frankenstein’s ultimate plan to build a Monster. Get well soon Jonas, the future needs you. Does this mean Valiquette now?

Good question.
I can’t think of any other available goalies out there right now off the top of my head. At least, none that we could get for so cheap. Here’s a look at Valiquette’s numbers at Hockey DB.
holy hell, the fucker is 6’6

Gotta grab Valiquette. Good Toronto kid.

Sportsnet’s last breaking report was that Carlton the Bear was retiring.
Until I hear Dreger or McKenzie confirm, this hasn’t happened.

I don't know how up to date this list is.
But our alternative options look bleak. Manny Fernandez? Marc Denis? MARTIN GERBER!? Umm…
Gerber would come back in a flash, wouldn’t he? GRBRZRKR might ride again!

If I remember correctly, it was mentioned after the first procedure that there was a possibility it might not get the correct nerve causing the ablation.
I guess they either missed or there was more than one.
We want this guy for the next 10 years
It’s worth three weeks now that the games don’t matter anymore….
Leaf, the universe and everything.
so true, I’d rather they sort this out now.

He'd never admit it,
but JJJ has really lucked out this year as far as playing time with the bigs this year.
For Sure
He’s only safe because of emergency recall waivers.

Waiver results come in at noon?
If the Leafs don’t claim Valiquette it’s MacDonald and Reimer for three games: Thurs (CLB), Sat (BOS), Mon (ATL).
Toskala should be back by Dec. 9 but I have to wonder how the coaching staff would feel about running Toskala and MacDonald for 9 games in 14 nights, given Toskala’s hip, knee, and groin.

Yup.
At least Valiquette’s cap hit is manageable at $725K

Really?
Cuz if my memory serves me correctly, last year we shelled him and won with a huge margin..
by PassivelyTruculent on Dec 3, 2009 1:04 AM EST up reply actions
Our games versus the Rangers last year:
0-1 SO
5-2
3-2 OT
2-1 SO
Valiquette only played the 5-2 game. That’s the one where we 5 in 4.21 in the third to win from 2-0 down. I’m not sure 3 goals is a huge margin mind.
He was 5-5 last year with a .907 save %age and 2.84 GAA.

Tell me I'm crazy.
But I wonder if a difference of $.725M would ever make a difference in our ability to acquire a draft pick for a salary dump? Then, if we bury him in the minors, does that mean that Reimer gets bumped down the depth chart? I guess I’d like to think that he’ll be given priority for the sake of development. If Valiquette is just a body to sit on the bench for 4 or 5 games, I’m inclined not to take him.
i am, they have two goalies who have proven less than durable and a life time back up, while Valiquette isnt exactly brodeur id rather have him on the bench in a game where we need 2pts than a kid who hasnt been to the show yet

So you think the cap situation and depth chart clutter are non-issues, then? Because those two things aside, I can’t see any other reasons why it could be a bad move.
he has a tiny cap hit, and is a UFA at the end of the season

MacDonald has to go back down as soon as Toskala comes back from IR.
Assuming we didn’t immediately waive Toskala (TM Chemmy), we’d have Toskala, Gustavsson and Valiquette on the NHL roster, MacDonald and Reimer on the Marlies, Engelage goes back to Reading, and Munro’s been on an AHL contract anyways.
I really see no issue here.
Resident Capologist
I don’t think Reimer’s going to be anything more than a good back up goalie in the future, so it’s not like we’re shooting ourselves in the foot by underdeveloping him.

Two of Poni, Stajan, Stempniak +1 prospect?
Poni and Stajan are both UFAs. The prospect would be someone deep on the depth chart.
Chicago gets two good depth guys for a cup run, plus aleviate their cap issues for next year. We get Sharp.

Kaberle for Sharp…
and we also take on Campbell’s contract.
I say no-thank-you to that.

I don’t see Burke giving up Kaberle for Sharp + a ridiculous contract either…
unless we include Finger and Blake, but I don’t think that would mathematically solve their cap issue… just wishful thinking mixed with my reluctance to get back studying…
...Being surrounded by Sens and Habs fans makes me lose faith in humanity...
I don’t see anyone making a deal for Campbell’s contract unless it included a boatload of picks AND prospects. Unless off course its Bob Gainey on the phone.
by PassivelyTruculent on Dec 3, 2009 2:09 AM EST up reply actions
Three way deal:
Montreal gets: Campbell
NY Islanders get: Huet
Chicago gets: Halak, Habs 2nd rounder in 2010, and Islanders 3rd Round pick in 2010
Everyone wins! Montreal gets overpaid, non-physical player, Islanders get another goalie, and Chicago gets cap relief and proves the stupidity of Bob Gainey once again.
