However, according to a doctor who wished to remain anonymous, just because Gustavsson needs a second ablation does not mean his heart problem is serious. An ablation is a tricky procedure and it is not uncommon for the surgeon to miss the spot that needs to be fixed, which means the problem will come up again.
The good news, the doctor said, is that hitting the right spot the second time around is easier because of the knowledge gained from the first attempt. The success rate for the first ablation is 80 to 90 per cent and is even higher for a second one, the doctor said.
all this and more from Shoalts' Globe and Mail article on Gustavsson.

this agrees with what the Flames fan said in the comments yesterday… it’s common for a first ablation to not eliminate the problem.
Phew.

I wonder if there’s another place to insert it? Especially since the nature of his job requires the use of his groin so much, couldn’t they insert it a bit lower on his thigh so it’s not as venerable to movement?
Well
My mom has an angioplasty go through her wrist. Maybe that works?
Pension Plan Puppets: A Toronto Maple Leafs blog and a group therapy session.
maybe, but he kinda needs those too
You probably get way bigger veins to work with in the groin though. Your biggest muscles are in your legs, and they need a LOT of blood to pump out all that energy. Hence big pipes to feed them. Bigger pipes means you can fit bigger stuff into them. I have no idea if they need that much more space – probably on small people they need their biggest veins, on an athlete he’ll have a lot of superhighways set up I would imagine for fast circulation.

He should be scheduled for an ablation every time the Leafs have 3 or 4 days off. Just to be sure.

They probably figured it wasn't worth the extra body problems
for the rest of the year for a few days of fix now.
We’ll probably be happy about this in six months.

IF we had waived Toskala we might have been able.
/sighs and retreats to fantasy life
I am Mikhail Grabovski's smirking revenge.
can’t waive a player who’s injured… and Toskala’s only back from the IR today, and we had to pick up Valiquette before noon.

Errr….Valiquette has been worse than Toskala :P And Toskala has been showing improvement.
So why would we want Vali :P
Err…no he hasn’t.
I know Karina. Emphasis on “fantasy life”. I’m starting to hate the CBA.
Valiquette 2-3-0 .852 3.74 SO 1
Toskala 1-4-2 .865 3.91 SO 0
I am Mikhail Grabovski's smirking revenge.
ahhh fantasy life where Rick Nash demanded to be traded to the Leafs, CuJo found the fountain of youth and plays like it was 2000, and Patrick Marleau signs with the Leafs this summer….
oh and Duncan Keith, rather than signing an extension, is moved to the Leafs so the Hawks can clear Cap Space.

You do realize that your stats just prove that Valiquette was playing worse than Toskala :P And yet you argue otherwise….strange.
The only important stat you posted is SV%, of which Toskala is better.
Even better, in November Toskala’s SV% was .899.
Valiquette on the other hand has just plain sucked all year. :P
Valiquette is a Ranger. ergo, he sucks.
I have nothing interesting to say.

More wins, less losses, better GAA, 1 shutout. At best, it’s a wash, and moreso that Valiquette has a minor edge.
Yes, very strange indeed. If SVP is so almighty important, why is Osgood considered to be a great goalie?
Or are you trying to say that SVP is more important than wins/losses?
Just not in the mood today.
I am Mikhail Grabovski's smirking revenge.
Osgood isn’t a great goalie. Osgood was one of the worst goalies in the league.
And yes, SV% is more important than wins and losses.
SV% is the be all and end all of goalie stats. Everything else is up to the defense.
Check it. 2007-2008…Evgeni Nabokov went 46-21 with a GAA of 2.14 and a SV% of .910.
Was Nabokov an awesome goalie that year? Hell no…his SV% was .910…which is decent, but not great. The low GAA, that was a result of his defense only allowing 23 shots a game. Last year’s version of Toskala would have a GAA of 2.40 or so in that system. The win total…same deal.
The Rangers have been a better team, and a better defensive team, so Valiquette has more wins and a better GAA. But where it counts…SV%, he’s been worse.
Osgood was one of the worst goalies in the league last year, that should read.
Osgood was actually worse than Toskala last year :P
did you look at Osgoode’s stats in the playoffs? Last year and the year before?

His playoffs last year are the reason he still has a job I think :) But that doesn’t change the fact that Osgood was terrible last year.
Ozzie has never been a great goalie. At best, he’s been average over most of his career. And since 02-03, he’s probably been slightly below average overall (due to age no doubt).
At best, it’s a wash, and moreso that Valiquette has a minor edge.
Are you really saying you’d rather commit to Toskala than Valiquette? Really? Or have you blocked out the pre-season and October?
I am Mikhail Grabovski's smirking revenge.
I’d definitely rather commit to Toskala than Valiquette for this season. No question about it.
Even with October included, Toskala has still been the better goalie. Your stats showed that definitively.
Why waste money to downgrade in net. :P Toskala is getting paid 4 million for this year…he’s getting paid that regardless. So if Valiquette is a downgrade in net, why the hell would I want to pay him in addition to Toskala when I’m seeing no tangible benefit.
It just doesn’t make sense.
Huh? I didn’t know that the Hawks have Cloutier in the AHL.
MacKenzie is confusing me on t his whole tagging thing.
