The Aftermath: Leafs 5 Thrashers 2.
Apparently losing the Bruins did the Leafs some good. They brought the thunder down on the Thrashers with Alexei Ponikarovsky scoring two goals. Ian White was a plus three on the night. There was a lot to be happy about with this game.
What were your thoughts? Luke Schenn thanks you for your time.

Poni's goals were 28 seconds apart.
In an 82 game season, at 60 minutes per game, that would put him on pace for 10,542 goals.

I think this is a bit unrealistic. Poni couldn’t play all 60 minutes of every game.
It’s more reasonable that he’d put in 20 minutes a night and score something like 3514 goals.

I'ma say it...
…Kessel is in a slump. Actually, I suppose it’s more accurate to say that he is “no longer a white hot smoking ember”. Still, my point is that he doesn’t look as sharp as he was there for a few weeks. Nice if we can still get ourselves a couple of wins while he works his way through that…

Hmm, I missed that – I see it on tsn.ca that he’s got the second assist on Stajan’s goal. Good point by you.
Still, he doesn’t look comfortable out there, entirely. He looked plenty pissed at Stajan on Saturday when Matty basically knocked him off the puck and caused the turnover that led to Chara’s goal. I’m not worried about Philthy Phil – just noting that the rest of the team has to pick up the load when he’s not rippin’ ’em home. Thrilled to see that the team did it tonight.

Elliot Friedman's 30 points
As for Kessel, he’s a better player than I thought. Former teammates are impressed at his improvement in controlling the puck, since he used to be a turnover machine. If I was the Leafs, though, I would have one concern.
He told one Bruin that he loves it in Toronto because he does whatever he wants, and Ron Wilson confirmed that with his quotes on Friday. That’s OK when your team isn’t very good, but it doesn’t fly when the stakes get higher. That’s why Kessel didn’t get along with Claude Julien. I’m curious to see where that leads in the future.

Karina made a good point about this in an earlier thread that Kessel’s concerns may be mitigated when and if he gets more talented linemates. Judging by Ron Wilson and Brian Burke’s style, and more so Burke, Kessel will be on the number one line where his main role is to score goals. Back-checking and hitting will be a bonus, but those jobs will be left to the other lines. That’s what I figure is Burke’s top 6, bottom 6 assessment.

John Fischer had an amazing quote about Olympic Goaltending for Canada
If you want to go with youth, go with Marc-Andre Fleury. If you want to be popular, go with Roberto Luongo. If you want to win the Gold, consider starting the one goaltender who has actually led Canada to win a gold medal in the last 50 years.
