On the First Day of Leafsmas, My True Love Gave to Me....

A pretty kick-ass Leafs stocking. (available here. via images.footballfanatics.com)
It's officially "holiday season" and I am in full swing. Enjoy the links, and have some Leafs-nog (aka-beer.)
- Down Goes Brown and Bloge Salming manage to make me feel better about the Leafs loss to Boston.
- Vintage Leafs with a picture of two icons colliding.
- I missed Archi's post for the previous FTB, but it's not like it could go out of style.
- Speaking of misses, Jared's recap just happens to be the top item on the Barilkosphere's wish list this year.
- Steve takes a look at Nikolai Kulemin and discovers another Poni.
- MLHS notes that one of the bonuses of the Leafs improved play could be inflated trade values come the deadline. Do I hear a "Matt Stajan for Nathan Horton" in our future? (Hint, the answer is "no.")
- Newest member of the Barilkosphere, the Blue (and White) Chip Defensemen starts us off with an easy post: Total Roster Analysis.
- With a win at home out of the way, Leafs Fan Forever is feeling worried.
- Are the Leafs world-beaters, or also-rans? Frozen Leafs was kinda hoping you'd know...
- Kavel has a curious list of Leafs up for your vote on "Leaf of the Decade."
- The Strangest One of All thinks Pierre Turgeon is as good as Mats Sundin. Should they both be Hall of Famers?

I mean, Turgeon and Sundin are practically identical if you just ignore the international achievements, records set while playing for an original six team, history of being the first European drafted first overall, and being the best Swedish forward to play hockey ever. I mean, check out how few All Star games Sundin appeared in!
I get where the guy’s coming from with this argument. It just so happens that his argument is that “Sundin and Turgeon are the same as long as you ignore everything that actually makes Mats Sundin a Hall of Famer, so if one gets in so should the other.”
Sigh.
While Sundin should be assured to be in the Hockey Hall of Fame; you have to maybe put Turgeon into consideration.
I don’t think is unreasonable.
I’m not even sure Sundin should be a slam-dunk first ballot guy, but that’s partly because I wish the NHL hall wasn’t quite so easy to get into. But if Bernie Federko and company are in the Hall, Turgeon at least deserves a discussion.

I agree that Turgeon probably gets in there eventually because of his numbers but Mats is a first ballot guy because it’s not just the NHL Hall of Fame.

No way Ronnie Sundin or Sylvain Turgeon make the HHOF.

Was his international play really that impressive?
He was captain of a gold medal team which is pretty rare. And he played often. But I was under the impression that he was considered an international underachiever until the Olympics.

I remember that Sweden was so mad when he went to the NHL that initially they banned him from international competition.

Yes
It was that impressive. He was captain for most of his career ahead of Forsberg and Lidstrom, he captained them to gold in Turin but also a couple of Worlds.

Ugh.
The history of your team before you played for it, your nationality, and your draft position should have nothing to do with anything as far as the Hall is concerned. Those are the worst arguments ever made for anything. All that matters is your performance and achievement. No need to resort to fluff when you’re talking about players who have actually earned a spot.
Sundin and Turgeon both had Hall of Fame careers. Sundin should beat Turgeon in, but they did take Glenn Anderson and Mike Gartner while Doug Gilmour is still waiting in line, so who the hell knows?

Oh yep, my mistake. Performance doesn’t have anything to do with your draft position. Holding scoring records isn’t a measure of achievement.
The Hall isn’t just some numbers game with a cutoff at how many points you managed in your career.

Tell them to keep a seat warm for Patrik Stefan then.
The straw man you spent the rest of the post pummeling learned his lesson. You can stop.

The guy who does the FAN 20/20 updates just indirectly referred to Howard Berger as a mittenstringer.
He is officially my favourite radio personality of all time.

TSNBobMcKenzie Washington puts Michael Nylander on waivers again
Would these be re-entry waivers? Meaning he’d be half price for this year and next?
