Pens' Kennedy suspended one game for instigating Schenn fight
1 game. I thought that if you came off the bench to start a fight it was a mandatory suspension for longer than 1 game?

i’m not sure about the mandatory suspension, but seeing as it’s against a penguin and not a leaf it’s void anyway.

I think it has something to do with
that line-change loophole (likely now to be closed). He didn’t, as the league envisioned when it wrote the rule, jump off the bench to lead off a bench-clearing brawl. That said, I think a stronger punishment was in order, but perhaps the league felt sorry for him after Luke pounded him?
I can see the loophole but for all intents in purposes he jumped in to start a fight so it’s a huge cop-out to point to that in the rule.
