"I've already been offered a top-five pick for Luke Schenn," Burke said of the rookie rear-guard, who was named first star in Saturday's 5-4 win against the Pittsburgh Penguins.
"But I'd have to be crazy to move him. It's sort of similar with Kaberle."

Alright
Well that solves the Kaberle deal. See ya later Kubina!

Is that really ever advisable?

as much as i like the two top 5 picks this year, not at the expense of the REAL first over all pick from last year

Yeah, why would you trade a player who was top 5 and is delivering on his promise for another top five pick that might not pan out?
I’d think about a top five pick and a seriously hot prospect (ie. Brassard, Krejci, etc.) but otherwise that offer is a joke.

What?
What does “sort of similar” mean?
A top 5 pick for Kabby? And he didn’t take it???

i think he ment moving him at this point would be crazy (IE he is hurt and wont reach max value till draft day)

I think he means it would be crazy to move Kaberle even for that top 5 pick…

You can't replace Kaberle
“In my mind, if we traded him, we’d be looking all summer trying to find someone exactly like him who can move the puck and doesn’t make a whole lot under the cap”

Whats VanRy’s cap hit?

Van Ryn is good, but he’s no Kaberle.

yah, but we would survive without him is what I was getting at. We puck moving defensemen in the wake.
We could always use that second 1st rounder on Ellis

I don’t get the love for Ellis. I understand he’s only 16-17 years old, but he’s still undersized and isn’t defensively strong. He was used almost exclusively as a power play specialist at the WJC and I’m not entirely convinced he has stardom written yet.

very true, It will come down to how every thing else works out. What are the offers, who else is moved, what free agents do they get a shot at, where do they draft.
I’m sure something is in the works, but honneslty I wouldnt be shocked to see all three of Kabby, Kubby and VanRy moved if Burke can get good returns for em in the shape of prospects and picks

I wouldn’t either, and I’m not sure I would be that majorly opposed to it. I’m assuming Burke will only move them for comparable value, so my opinion changes if he proves otherwise.

That group of D-men
From last season’s draft may go down as the best ever single-season crop. Doughty is the real-deal over here on the left-coast, and the other kids have yet to even have a chance to show their stuff. Poor Stamkos (although he appears to be turning it around).
Who would be offering their top pick?
With 30 games left, who even knows that they’ll have a top-five pick?
Wait … crap.

The article isn’t clear. Technically, the offer was a top five in exchange for one game from Luke Schenn.
I still wouldn’t have done it.

agreed...
remember at the beginning of the season when everyone was certain we were ruining Luke Schenn by keeping him up?
even some regulars on this site were subscribing to that theory for a bit.

Chemmy secretly hates seeing Luke Schenn playing this season.

I don't about ruining...
But I did think Schenn was better served at Kelowna to develop his offensive game. But I do find it encouraging that Wilson or the coaching staff must have been saying sweet nothings to Schenn to carry and shoot the puck more.

Top 5 Pick
- - At this rate, we’re already going to have a top 5 pick in this draft
- - Luke Schenn already is a top-5 pick.
