I used to think so but man this entire Rangers career is just ruining his legacy.

he did well
the year after the lockout when he stuck to a budget and didn’t make any crazy acquisitions.

DAMN!
So much for Alfie wetting himself Saturday night.
Another contract off of the books.

Yeah but...
The physical contract is off the books. I am going to write a post about why ;)

oooh, let me guess: it puts the Leafs SPC count at 47 or 48, giving Burke room to add two more contracts before he has to move a body.

Way to blow my post based on the premise that you suggested ‘someone’ write about ;)
p.s. the CD is awesome.

For shame...
I was actually hoping to see him play.

Actually the more I think about it
The more surprised I am
Can any pull up the details of Bell’s salary and contract? I don’t understand why the Rangers are taking up MORE salary when their payroll is less then half a mil under the cap as it is.

Unless
Sather is thinking he can use Bell are the trade deadline for something…
"God's in His heaven. All's right with the world." - Robert Browning (1812-1889)
Though I doubt anyone will want to trade for him, since they could have gone him for free like the Rangers (but I didn’t see him getting claimed either, so what do I know), Bell just looks like a player to change some of the same old, same old with the Rangers and add a little grit to an otherwise lethargic and soft-ish team. I’m guessing Voros (and Avery) will also get more ice time to add that toughness.

Contract...
$2,166,667 ending July 1st.
so we pick up the tab for half since he was on re-entry waivers.
by PeterZezel on Feb 25, 2009 12:59 PM EST up reply actions
But, obviously we are only picking up half of the the remainder. Just guessing it is around $200,000 by now.
Well
Still seems nonsensical to me, they have barely any room in the payroll as is, and Sather still seems hell-bent on bringing Avery back.
"God's in His heaven. All's right with the world." - Robert Browning (1812-1889)
it seems
nonsensical to me that Sather is still the GM.

I just figured...
If he was the real Peter Zezel he would have said something when he said he looked like whatever ate Peter Zezel on TV.
Note: That was before we realized he had an illness that caused the weight gain.
Pension Plan Puppets: A Toronto Maple Leafs blog and a group therapy session.
I don’t think any part of that is English.
and what illness? I have been banned from the Peter Zezel fanclub.
GAH
One day Chemmy and I were saying that Peter Zezel now looks like the thing that ate Peter Zezel.
PeterZezel didn’t say anything so we assume it’s not him.
And on his wikipedia page he apparently has an illness that leads to lots of weight gain.

it seems strange to me
that Bell would get picked up, and not Devereaux. Man, I forgot how fast Devereaux was. And defensively sound.

Physicality?
Maybe the Rangers are looking for the edge Voros was providing earlier, that Avery used to have. Or maybe Sather finally succumbed to full out dementia.
Agree
Devo’s the much better pick up.
Pension Plan Puppets: A Toronto Maple Leafs blog and a group therapy session.
Thumbs Down frm Dr Mirtle
A pretty curious move, actually, especially when we’ve been hearing for weeks that Sean Avery was going to be the player the Blueshirts wanted off re-entry waivers. New York’s very tight against the cap, and even at half his salary, Bell is due $1.25-million.
He also has not been all that impressive in the AHL, so I’m not quite sure what the Rangers brass are thinking here.
probably...
that he’s cheaper than Avery.

Possibly
That Sather got tired of trying to convince Dallas to give them Avery for practically nothing

Bell's cap hit...
…is actually calculated daily. And since I’m often in the “math is hard” camp, these numbers should likely be double-checked/taken with a grain of salt.
There are 191 days in the NHL schedule.
Bell’s $2.17M salary breaks down to $11,361 per day. As he was a waiver claim, Leafs and Rangers split the cap hit.
That’s $5680 per day for the Rangers and Leafs.
There are 45 days left in the NHL schedule, so:
Total cap hit to NYR: $255,628.27
Total cap hit to TML: $255,628.27

so i’m not the only one who thinks bettman looks like gollum? i’ve got a great side-by-side of the two of them, i have to figure out how to post it…
puck daddy had an ongoing Gary Bettman photoshop contest awhile back, and Gollum was a popular fellow if i recall. And Bettman was there, too.

I thought, admittedly just from the blurb on Kukla, Hunter was reporting on the Pronger comparison that Burke used for what he expects for Kaberle. So like Pronger, Burke wants a 1st rounder, roster ready player, and a top prospect. I should probably read the whole article before I dissent…
