Damien Cox Is Going Insane
We all loved seeing The Omen wade into his comments as his failed print column actually became more like an actual blog. However, the problem here is that rather than just guess at Damien's twisted logic he is actually spelling it out for us which at the same time that it amuses us also makes me think that he might be going insane.
I don't know how hard he works to convince himself that his logic about the Leafs trading up to get the fifth overall pick but he goes off the tracks (further?) when he starts trying to compare trading draft picks to trading established players.
Anyway, once you recover from laughing at The Omen check these links out:
- If you missed The Agenda's look at fighting here is a blog about it and hopefully I'll get a link on where you can watch it.
- TSM wonders if sticking with Toskala last year was a mistake by Cliff.
- Richard Zednik trumps Hagman's goal. Your move Niklas!
- Gus Katsaros makes a case for selecting Hedman if the Leafs win the lottery. I think some handsome fellow here made that announcement a month or so ago.
- General Tao tried to break up with the Leafs last year. I'll give you one guess why he can't quit them.

Interesting Note
Glen Healey was on the Fan590 taking caller questions this morning, and someone asked him about contraction (Phoenix having been passed up by 3 potential suitors after said suitors took a closer look at their books), and Healey stated that the NHLPA is aware of 4 groups who are very intent on buying an NHL franchise, and that according to Gary Bettman (and he stresses this intensely, and repeatedly), all the current existing NHL markets are viable and all the franchises are in perfect health no with problems…
Healey could’ve been sarcastic but it was hard to tell over the radio

Zednik goal
That goal is nice, don’t get me wrong, but there are a few things to take into consideration when comparing it to Hagger’s.
One, he didn’t get knocked down by the ref, kneed in the head, and then get a puck in the face, while playing his second game in a visor, and Two, and most importantly, it was against the Isles. I’m pretty sure I scored accidently against the Isles just last week.

Yeah, but DiPietro MacDonald Danis was interfered with!
No, I agree. The hilarity of Hagman’s shift made his better. Plus, he didn’t do it against the Isles, so it didn’t anger me as much — and that should count for something.

question about objectionable language: what about when we’re making fun of John Mitchell? it’s just that I’m pretty sure that when he drops 10 f-words in a row, he’s not saying “fat frolicking fudge farmers”.

We’re still a “sports bar” environment in game day threads. Don’t take this as a lecture personally, and other users shouldn’t take this as a lecture because I probably swear more than all of you folks combined.
Profanity is ok, but try and rein it in unless it’s incredibly funny or necessary. The stuff that was happening in the Sabres game day thread is stuff that would get anyone tossed from most decent bars. (long strings of nothing but the word “fuck”, long XXX conversations, etc).

Given a choice between a stud forward and a stud defenseman, I think you have to go with the defenseman – particularly since the Leafs can be even worse next year and there’s another forward to be had.
Leaf, the universe and everything.
Hedman / Schenn would be a scary scary site for anyone to come at on the offensive rush. The only player I could see liking that would be Ovie.

Uugghhh, the comments on the Hedman V Tavares peice have un-realistic hopes and dreams dancing in my head.
Now I see BB trading off all assets and depleteing this team so they suck so bad a black hole would e jelous and then having either a Tavares/Hall/ Schenn combo or a Hedman/Hall/Schenn combo and then having so much cap room that no combination of free agents is out of reach

The Leafs are in a lottery position. Are you saying that on the whole most of our players don’t suck?
What explains their lack of production? Homesickness? A government conspiracy? Kronwall couldn’t crack the lineup for the past three years of terrible Leafs D, he’s a disposable aging prospect who never delivered and is going to be a UFA in 30 games.

That's not true
Kronwall made the team last year before he got a high ankle sprain in one of the last pre-season games.
Then, the fact that he had to pass waivers cost him a call-up.
Yes, our team sucks but it wouldn’t suck nearly as bad if ToskaLOL wasn’t our goalie.

by Karina on Feb 6, 2009 12:13 PM EST reply actions
I vote no
out of respect for Cujo. Alternating Toskala and Pogge however the Leafs choose throughout the rest of the year is good enough for me.
Can an injured player be waived? My worry is that Legace is less than 100% healthy…
(and if he were claimed it will serve as a constant reminder that JFJ could have signed Legace as a UFA for $1M, thereby keeping Rask in the system and saving Leafs nation from the Raycrfot years. Although had that happened, the Leafs likely would have made the playoffs at least once since the lockout and JFJ might still be our GM. What a nightmare.)
Bitter Leaf Fan: a life-long Toronto Maple Leafs fan comments on the team, the media and the exasperation...
I would be for it if Cujo retired. he’d be a solid back up for Pogge and probably a just as good a mentor as Cujo

He’s UFA next year, I don’t really see the point of picking him up for 30 games. In the summer, maybe, depending on the direction Burke wants to go and if Toskala is traded/bought out/taken out back and shot.

In my day job, I occasionally have to coach people who are new to blogging. One of the toughest parts to get used is dealing with negative comments. Cox has been “blogging” for a while but has only been getting involved in the comments recently, so he’s pretty much a rookie.
He definitely let that one get away from him. But I’ve seen people fail a lot harder than he did, and he did eventually seem to realize it was time to move on.
