That is a fun post over at Battle of California

interesting
I see that the Sens have a prospect in the running for the Hobey Baker award as well.
Clearly this is something we need to beat them at. PickVik!

Zednik for Masterson
Would anyone else even be in the running other than Zednik, really? Definitely a shoo-in there unless there’s someone I am totally forgetting about. Pretty remarkable that anyone would come back from that. The league overall is lucky the guy lived, to say nothing of him returning to the game so quickly!

Sullivan
2 years out of the league, barely able to walk because of back problems, and now is back and making a difference for the Preds….

If he’d had his spine shattered on national TV he might have a shot, but Zednik will win on the drama of his injury alone

Yeah, Sullivan’s story is pretty impressive but almost having to retire and almost dying are pretty far apart.

We should never have traded Brad Boyes.

Pat Quinn made some really bad trades.
Boyes + McCauley + a 1st rounder for Owen Nolan was atrocious. JFJ-esque, in fact. I thought it was dumb at the time and I knew even less then than I do now.

In context it was a good trade. The Leafs could still replace their firepower using their money and Nolan was meant to be the kind of power forward that would get the Leafs over the hump.

stupid Nolan
broke my heart. If he’d been in his prime, he would’ve been so awesome.
I think Quinn got swindled more than anything else – clearly the Sharks had figured out that he’d passed his best before date, but noone else had, and Quinn was the unlucky GM to win the bidding war.

sad part is
I didn’t even think losing Boyes was a big deal, I thought losing McCauley was the huge hit, for whatever reason I never really cared about how he played in the NHL because of the absolute gaudy numbers he put up in the minors…or what I remember CBC and TSN and CTV and CityTV and whatever other tv sports reporter telling me he did…..God was I wrong
