Luke Schenn, Ian White Named to Team Canada
Our Luke and Saviour will now be Canada's Luke and Saviour as he patrols the blue line for our entry into the World Hockey Championships. This is great news for his development and would never have been possible if he had stayed in junior.
Kubina and Kaberle will not play for the Czech Republic and Ponikarovsky will not be suiting up for Ukraine in Pool B.
Ian White's continued association with the Wendel 'stache has resulted in him getting picked for Team Canada. It is wonderful news that he's been recognized for his yeoman effort over the past season. So that's two members of the worst defence in the league representing Canada. Maybe brighter days are ahead?

Well, Thank God.
At least one of our rookies will be able to get some experience under his belt after the regular season. This guy needs to remember what it’s like to win.
Upon Schenns acceptance, Leaf management quickly informed Kubina, Kaberle and Poni that they were not to play in the tourny for obvious safety reasons.

I wonder who Poni is eligible to play for though…Canada should pick him :)

Yeah, he’s played for the Ukraine before so he can’t play for Canada. Darn.

This World Championships is essentially a tryout for players that might get considered for the Olympic training camp so I would guess that the lack of White for Canada talk had to do with the fact that he won’t be considered for the Olympic team.

I think that’s a fair assessment. White isn’t likely to unseat the top 10 Canadian d-men in time for the 2010 games, and even Schenn in all his glory will likely be passed over to let asses like Phaneuf play, but getting Luke involved now is good, because if he is this awesome now, imagine how frigging terrifyingly awesome he will be around 2014 when he will be closer to entering his prime.
Running over terribleness in search for something positive about the Leafs. Anything? Anyone?!

Yeah
Schenn is definitely a long-shot for 2010 but if injuries hit and they want to take him on the taxi squad then this is a great chance for him to make his case.

He could also destroy everyone who stands in his way.

once he is announced to the taxi squad he will destroy someone on the roster to gain their place

Dammit.
I can’t get direct flights to Zurich. And I wouldn’t want to hang around Luton for five hours.
I can get to Geneva, but that’s on the wrong side of the country.
It’s not a good solution.

Blake on TSN
I’ll crush him," Leafs winger Jason Blake said with a laugh. "No, obviously, it’s a great step for [Schenn]. For the things he did this year [in the NHL], he should be proud of himself.
“But keep you head up, Schenny.”

What a change in attitude. I don’t Blake makes that joke last year.

Yeah, amazing how all these dressing room cancer players (grabbo, Blake) seem to have good attitudes when they play in TO

Luke Schenn is going to break Jason Blake’s leg to rid us of his contract.

I’m too busy to read the papers, can someone please do a quick head count for me, I’d like to know how many members of the media have:
a) filed stories claiming that playing for Team Canada will further hurt Schenn’s development
b) written a mea culpa and changed course on any pre-season pronogstications that declared Schenn the next bust
c) identified all the other Canadian d-men that said “no” thereby creating an opening for Schenn
d) congratulated the Leafs on trading up to nab and develop a player who’s representing Team Canada at just 19
