About a week ago in the comments we were talking about the St. Louis Blues not having a single pick in the 1983 entry draft. Due to a complicated sales process, the loss of management and ownership, team was not even represented at the Entry draft.
I emailed the fine fellows at St. Louis Game Time to see if they could add some details to this strange anecdote and amazingly they had a blog entry prepped and ready to go on the whole deal.
The fascinating backstory is replete with a NHL Board of Governors veto, Saskatoon promotional brochures and a draft-day table surrounded by empty chairs representing the franchise (one way empty chairs > JFJ: empty chairs won't trade first round picks for suspect goaltending).
The whole story will be posted later today, keep an eye on St. Louis Game Time as it's definitely worth a read...
PPP Update: The full unbelievable story is up and it's well worth the read.
