Die By the Blade looks back at the D-Moore trade.

"This was an awful trade for the Buffalo Sabres in more ways than one. ... Dominic Moore has been invisible for the Sabres."

I think it’s a good lesson about teamwork, and a good example of why young guys should want to sign in Toronto right now.

Toronto’s systems obviously benefited Dominic Moore greatly, Moore decided to be selfish and try and go for big money and the Leafs sent him packing. Toronto got a 2nd round pick for a waiver wire grab, and made a clear statement about the future direction of this franchise.

I wouldn’t say he was being selfish. He’s had a career year in a contract year. Those don’t come around very often. But I do see your point, for sure.

he should have waited till his contract was over to get all demandy with the money, unless it was Burke who was pressing for a contract before agreeing to keeping him
oh well yay second round pick!

Another new word by Jared.

“Demandy”. Reminds me of Black Adder-
Blackadder: “Baldrick, have you no idea what irony is?” Baldrick: “Yes, it’s like goldy and bronzy only it’s made out of iron.”

Speaking of Black Adder quotes:
Blackadder: “A man may fight for many things. His country, his friends, his principles, the glistening ear on the cheek of a golden child. But personally, I’d mud-wrestle my own mother for a ton of cash, an amusing clock and a sack of French porn.”

Burke

He definitely took the reins and wanted a deal done or something for his asset.

It is weird that Buffalo, whose 2nd round pick will be slighlty better value then the NY Rangers 2nd round pick, chose Moore over Antropov. Couldn’t they have had Antro instead since theirs is the higher bid, or were they not willing to throw in the additional “if we make the Conference Finals we’ll throw in a 4th rounder as well” condition?

by general borschevsky on Apr 8, 2009 11:57 AM EDT reply actions

Yeah, it’s weird how that worked out, but this is more a case of Buffalo massively overpaying for garbage, and New York getting pretty good value for money.

It’s actually Carolina’s second round pick which will be worse than the Sabres.

Aha. Thanks. That’s actually a key piece of information that I think has missed a lot of people’s attention, including mine.

Still, at the time, Carolina was well behind the NYRangers, making the pick more valuable when the deal was done. Not anymore though.

Yup

Maurice is one again fucking with the Leafs’ draft position to benefit himself personally.

What an asshole.

Anyone else

want Antro back next year? Too old? Too good? Won’t be around when the rest of the team gets good?

Tanking by accident?

by Haeyena on Apr 8, 2009 1:08 PM EDT reply actions

Yes

At the right price. He’ll still be in his prime when the rest of the team gets good.
