their ‘pretty good fans’ pretty much abandoned the team while they stunk for 10 years. they’re no better than habs fans.

they’re basically the same as pittsburgh, except they sucked for a longer period but not quite as badly. the pens had 5 top 5 picks to get where they are, the hawks had 3.

and the hard-on the league had for chicago this year made me want to puke.

but my hate for them has nothing to do with the cup drought. that’s just an added bonus.

despite being owner, he tried to run the team as well. He was behind the stripping of the team with Lanny McDonald and so on until they finally convinced Darryl Sittler to accept a trade.
He tried to make Roger Neilson wear a paper bag on his head while coaching a game.
Apparently he was a good friend if he liked you, but look out otherwise.

As a fan of the NHL (outside of Pittsburgh), one almost has to root for the Detroit Red Wings to repeat. Think about it hockey fans; how many times are NBC and Versus going to shove Crosby skating around with the Stanley Cup down our faces over the summer and next season?

I’ve basically resigned myself to the fact that unless the Leafs win the cup, I’ll be annoyed at the NHL’s coverage. If the Sharks had won it, it’d be all about how they stole their coach from the Wings. Carolina – we’d hear all about Paul Maurice. There just wasn’t a good option.

It’s a good post, but I don’t agree with him.

To me, a team needs to string a bunch of championships together. They’ve been the dominant team of our era, but I don’t think they rank with the Oilers, Habs or Isles.
