Challenge to Leafs Nation: Plans to Invade Habland
That's right, I am slamming the gauntlet down.
Last year I spend the Hockey Entry draft in front of the TV in my underwear. Everything was clipping along fine, we were trading up to eventually draft Our Luke and Savior, all was going according to plan.
Then it was announced that it was our pick and the crowd booed. I am used to hearing boos when the Leafs are involved, especially in Senaturd country, but to hear them booing us going to the podium to draft? WTF????
I could have been in Ottawa that day. I had nothing else to do, It's only an hour or so drive (although to get to the Palladium/Corel Centre/Scotia Bank Place/Future Manure Pile you have to go to Kanata.) Who the hell puts their sports stadium in the middle of buttfuck nowhere??? Did someone think it would be quaint or prosaic to be surrounded by fields instead of bars, shops and restaurants???
But I digress....(my grade 9 English teacher used to say that all the time and it used to piss me off, so I stored that little tidbit of information for future reference.)
This year, the draft is just as close to me - geographically speaking - and I won't let this opportunity pass me by again. I am going to Montreal on June 26th and I will be there representing Leafs Nation. I will fight through everything the toughest Frenchman can throw at me. I know, not that tough, but if enough of them get together they could overturn a burning car onto me.
But I digress (annoying, isn't it?) Back to the Gauntlet: I challenge all Leaf fans out there to make an effort and join me in Montreal. Show your colours and support for the Blue and White, and your disdain for la Bleu, Blanc et Rouge.
We can all go out to eat and fill a restaurant or two. Let's show them what real fans are made of(mostly beer and wings at that point, I would assume.)
Then we can go to the Draft and take up an entire section. A section of screaming and waving Leaf fans. We will drown out the Booing when it is our turn to pick (whether that be at 7th or first.)
It will be fun! We can finally meet fellow PPP'ers in person and share our stories about the Leafs.
Probably most important, we can piss off a whole lot of Hab fans. That in itself is worth the trip!
I am not guaranteeing that I won't end up in my underwear this year, but it will definitely be Leaf underwear.
Hope to see everyone there. I don't think we will have a hard time recognizing each other as Leaf fans.
PS I'll see what I can find out about transportation, restaurants and hotels and post some links on PPP(the site, not the person...that would be painful.)

The toughest thing
A frenchman can throw at you would be a series of poorly thought-out insults and an empty cigarette pack, so I’m not all that concerned about your survival, my friend. They do, however, have a tendency to go into irrational rages and burn things, so make sure you’re not driving a cop car.
I can’t make it but I’d love a baker’s dozen of fresh bagels……….

Oh man, the Jewish delis there have some aMAZing food, not to mention the fact that you should probably eat poutine until you sweat gravy. To top it off, they have tons of awesome bars (touristy ones on Rue Ste. Catherine, but good all the same) and pubs that you can check out. The Peel Pub is famous for their 4L pitchers. Honestly, Montréal is a way cooler city than Toronto; it’s just so unfortunately inhabited by Habitants.
It definitley has a better night life but Toronto has the Blue Jays?!

Our lovely wraparoundcurl is going to Montreal for the very same reasons – attend the NHL draft, stuff her face full of poutine with a side of gay strip bars (that last one might be for her eyes only). You should hit her up through electronic communication for more details.

I'm already here
and I’d love to go, but unfortunately I’ll be away at a conference (though I’ll make sure to watch!)
There’s an outside chance I’ll be in Montreal that weekend for the tweetup. If so, count me in.

La would make them a bunch of small cute felines and confuse the hell out of the frenchmen of whom you speak who are more prone to cheering soccer ; ). No news yet as to tickets to the draft , but if they are general admission as is the custom, a small scale posse to occupy of our own corner of the rink is in order.
Oh Well

I will at least be watching on television. Hopefully they’ll actually have footage of Brian Burke holding Garth Snow’s head in the toilet until he agrees to trade the first overall pick for Jason Blake and Andre Deveaux. If by some chance it becomes feasible for me to come in from North Bay, I will give it some serious consideration; I’ve always wanted to attend a draft.
Still kicking myself for missing the Ottawa draft. Could have went to drafts 2 years running. I actually could have been there when Schenn was Drafted!
Wrap, LD, and Mabel would have flipped if I could have gotten a picture with him.
Since his brother is getting drafted I bet Luke is at the draft this year.

In that case
Post up on when and where you want to meet so we can get a significant group together. Better than filtering in a few at a time.
Since I plan on doing a little drinking(and I hate driving in MTL) I will probably bus it down.
Hope you guys and gals don’t mind that an Oilers fan may be coming along. I may be able to offset that by bringing an additional Leaf fan, as Leafboy may be able to go as well.
I would like to see a commitment from MattBlack. And none of this whiny ’It’s all the way across the Atlantic’ excuse. That is just so overplayed.

Unfortunately, still no information on when tickets are being released for this event. Wouldn’t surprise me if it is last minute to try and prevent people from outside the city attending.
One more thing: http://www.blasthorn.com/
As far as really loud Marine Air horns, they look extremely expensive and kinda bulky.

Hey Wrap, when you get the tickets, could you post an update on the main page?
Also, everyone needs to meet up somewhere before heading over to the draft.
Just looks better when a dozen people decked out in Leafs gear all roll in at once.
PS – Montreal isn’t a full representative of Canada as a whole, but it is quite the city. Second best party town in Canada. Disclaimer: I have not been to every city in Canada but I stick by my statement.
If you are wondering, Halifax beats Montreal hands down.

Yes, I will. And I need a head count. I need peeps who are FOR SURE going and needing tickets or if you have ticket leads etc. Please email me, my addy is at the bottom of the front page. If it’s a maybe for you or you aren’t sure, please sort out your own tickets and everything, I don’t want to be short or holding your ticket for you if you are not attending.
And I am still waiting on my press credentials, so I might be away from the gang. But I will also get a ticket for myself in case that doesn’t pan out. That and I will be dressed all professionally.

I have confidence in your ability to cover this event professionally and skillfully, but if Luke wanders over to talk to you all bets are off.
I predict anything from as mild as a fangirl beaming smile to as extreme as a ‘Take me now!’
We shall see.
Also, be careful as he just needs to be within 10’ of you for impregnation, or so I have heard.

The perfect Draft Day in Montreal…also known as the ultimate FU to havenot fans?
The Leafs trade their number 7 pick over all to Tampa for Vinny….the frigging roof would come off of the Bell Centre, and I would spend the rest of the summer laughing my ass off at the havenot fans.
by wayne scarlett on May 30, 2009 11:05 PM EDT reply actions
If any of you are going to follow the draft like I do by writing down each pick…use a pencil for the first 7 picks. The story(?) from Strachan is that the Leafs are talking to LA about the 5 pick…..but then that has been suggested for a few weeks now and we all know how many sources Al has, don’t we?
by wayne scarlett on May 30, 2009 11:08 PM EDT reply actions
Who would they be targeting with the fifth pick? Schenn, who’s not a lock to even go that high? Hopefully they wouldn’t have to give up as much as they did last year. That being said, if I’m Brian Burke, the only two players I want in the first round are Matt Duchene or Brayden Schenn; he better get one of them.
