Didomenico Breaks Femur
The recently signed Leaf prospect was cross checked trying to touch the puck on an icing call in the first period of the third game of the Q league final last night. He was taken off the ice on a stretcher and admitted to hospital. According to his coach, (article in French) Didomenico , despite his extreme pain, repeated over and over while prone on the ice "je veux la game" to his team mates. I'm sure you can translate. If he recovers, I think this is the kind of character that we want on our team. Drummondville now leads the series 2-1.
PPP Update: Here is a CP article for you Anglos.

fuck sakes, that is a hard injury to come back from, a hell of a long recovery
I doubt he’ll be ready for training camp, poor kid.
lets hope he can recover for his health and our selfish reasons as well

that’s tough on the kid, and he’s been having a fantastic playoff too. Was looking forward to seeing him in the Mem Cup.

If it really is a broken femur, he probably won’t even be on skates again for almost a year.
Total disaster for the kid.

Dear God
What a brutal accident and yet more proof that no-touch icing is needed.

I have
actually agreed with his whole stance on no-touch icing though, way too many pointless injuries as a result of touch-icing, its positively silly, 90% of the time the defending team touches the ice anyway so it almost never generates any additional offensive opportunities

Kurtis Foster agrees as well.

Hmmm maybe he was racing to negate icing?

Yes, he was hit after the ref had blown the play dead.

With a little artistic license, the translation is essentially, based on this photo, " don’t look at my twisted fucking frankenstein leg, just win the fucking game".

From Wikipedia:
On March 20, 2008, Foster suffered a broken left femur in a game against the San Jose Sharks. Foster suffered the injury when Sharks center, Torrey Mitchell, checked Foster into the bottom of the boards whilst attempting to prevent an icing call. The hit which resulted in a penalty was later ruled, by the NHL, accidental. Foster had season-ending surgery to repair his broken left femur and missed the remainder of the season and postseason.
Honestly this is a complete shitshow. Kurtis Foster overcame his leg injury after establishing his name in the NHL. DiDomenico may not get that chance.

yeah, he’d have to make a comeback with a new team
is he young enough for another season in the Q? or would he have to go to the Marlies?

I’m not sure. I think we need more information. I was really excited to see DiDomenico in training camp this summer, best wishes to the kid.

yeah, its all down to the severity of the break. the femur is a tricky thing, even a slight crack can shelve someone who isnt a pro hockey player for the better part of 6 months, a severe break can kill you.
Im hoping its the former

Foster actually got re-signed for a year and spent almost all of it on LTIR. Came back just in time for the trade deadline.

The Ultimate Gutless Play
I actually had this done to me. Chasing a dump-in (I played D), some gutless wonder gave me one of those “put the stuck across the back, and push down to take his legs out” right near the boards. Luckily, I escaped with nothing worse than a sprained ankle, but it ended my junior career, as I was in a dogfight for an overage spot and this happened in our second-to-last exhibition game. They let me go cause they weren’t sure what the extent of the injury was, and the season was starting in 5 days.
It’s bullshit that this kid is essentially going to walk away scot-free. The kid who hit him is 20, which would make him an overager for the Q. He’s never going to serve more than a couple games in the playoffs, and he’ll probably waltz on over to the CIS and play a few more years.
And mea culpa, for some reason, I thought it happened to Mitchell. So I got that wrong.

It did happen to Mitchell.

Both Mitchell and Foster broke their femurs. Mitchell hit Foster from behind on an icing call, and then in this preseason Mitchell ran into a net I believe and broke his femur.
A kid in my high school broke both his femurs when the pile of sheetrock he was leaning up against shifted and fell on him.
