Bettman on the Fan590
Difference between Phoenix and Winnipeg and Quebec?
only move team if nobody wants to own a team in than area.
Hamilton/Winnipeg as a hockey market?
No plans for expansion. Goes back to talking about Phoenix staying in Phoenix. Ratings are good (what ratings is he looking at). Fans aren't looking at this issue (um the fact that Ontario fans are doesn't tell you something?)
on Balsillie
Sat down with Balsillie when he was buying Nashville to let him know how to get into the league. Doesn't know why Balsillie is doing what he is doing. Motivation not concern. Concern not about Balsillie but League rules.
When is it not working in Phoenix? How much money has to be blown?
not blowing anything (are you serious?) Works until it doesn't work. Glendale is willing to make changes to make it workable.
Television
Decision on back to back games was made by NHL because of people wanting to do stuff in the summer. Television accomodated us. Record numbers on NBC. GMs agreed to this.
Young Stars
Suckup question by MacLean. Attendance, revenues, ratings are all at all-time highs. System is working. Season ticket renewals are at 80% for next year already (Guess it helps when the Leafs renew at 100%).
Tannenbaum and Galisano
Doesn't speak to them much. They understand the importance of League rules.
END OF INTERVIEW
More sucking up by MacLean

I wonder what world Bettman lives in….

More of the same everytime he speaks.
I can understand the want to have a team in Pheonix. It fills a dead space on the map and makes the NHL a national product in the states.
Hard to get a national TV deal when you are missing a chunk of the country. That being said it isn’t working. Period.
I believe in Karma. That means I can do bad things to people all day long and I assume they deserve it. - Dogbert
Also, Phoenix is something like the 5th largest metropolitan area in the States. To crack that market would be HUGE. But that’s just not going to happen.
Says who? It was happening. And then came the lockout and general mismanagement.

It’s working in Nashvile a non-traditional market. It could work in Phoenix. Bettman has got to stop lying to everyone (and perhaps himself) about the situation and put in the measures to make it work. I still think though Bettman is being dishonest with his aspirations for the future of the Coyotes especially considering some of the names he’s sought as investors are people rumoured to have aspirations for a Vegas franchise.

And the Rumors are exactly that. Rumors. THe team won’t be moving to Las Vegas anytime soon. If Balsillie loses that Glendale lease might be renegotiated a bit but the City won’t be puting in an escape hatch for them.

Good FanPost
I should hope he doesn’t speak to Tanenbaum because Peddie is the BOG rep.
I wish he would be realistic when he spoke. Acknowledge that there are problems but that he thinks that they can get past it.

Anyone else wonder why Doug Maclean is on the radio? The guy is just awful, and sucks up to Gary Bettman in the worst kind of way.
I completely agree. The guy ran the Blue Jackets into the ground and gets to go on TV AND radio?

There are rumours of him getting the vacated Florida job. I have my fingers crossed.

And his broadcasting skills are nonexistent. I’ve never heard anyone interrupt his cohost or guests so many times, and to say absolutely nothing! Are there really so few coherent people available in the broadcasting world?
but he traded up for Rick Nash!!
