The Dog Days of Summer
Yes, they're here. With the culmination of another season on Friday, there will be nothing but NHL highlights, draft picks and free agency between now and September's pre-season games. So, what to do, what to do?
If you're a regular around these parts, your summer may consist of this:
via www.lolhome.com
But, of course, we all know that leads to this:
Perhaps, there might be a better way to pass those long hot summer days...?
You're in luck. As you may have already realized, as a member of an online community, you are someone who owns a computer and lives in their mother's basement. Naturally, feeling quite safe and cozy in these friendly confines, you're apprehensive of leaving. I'm with ya. I say NAY to sunshine and fresh air and YAY to days and nights of NHL09 online.
That's right, the first (that I'm aware of) annual PPP Summer League is now open for PPP members to join. all you need is an X-box 360, a copy of NHL09 and an X-box live account. So, if you're up for it, shoot me an email, the address for which can be found in the footer of this website, and I'll send you the particulars you'll need to sign up.

the only reason it's "X-Box exclusive"
is because I don’t own a PS3 as well.
I know there are a few PS3 owners ’round these parts. Nothing from stopping you all starting your own PS3 league.

How do you have a system and not have NHL 09?
A Nation of Masochists a blog dedicated to Toronto sports fans, who are continually punished but keep coming back for more.
Just bought it, and I don’t like playing hockey games out of season.
Rather wait for NHL10 to come out and pick up that one.

ditto
and I’m quite possibly the ONLY guy in my city who buys the game the day it comes out.
I could wait a month or two and pick it up used, but it’s never gonna happen. Full retail.
Although, this year I’ll probably pick up a second copy, just in case. My current NHL09 copy is messing up bad. Keeps holding after faceoffs for a second or two…

I kid because I care.
In sooth, at least the early part of my summer is shaping up to be too mental to reliably schedule any console time. I have somehow managed to get myself involved in writing, directing and editing a short educational film for a community/charitable group I do some work with. I haven’t got the first freaking clue what I’m doing, but since I know how to turn on the camera, I am apparently appointed.
Between that and another writing project I have, not to mention the things on my “honey do” list, I couldn’t play with any kind of regularity. If someone does start up a PS3 league, though, I might be able to drop in for the occasional match….
Question: Will all games be Leafs vs. Leafs?

coolio
and congrats on being able to grasp the “On” concept of a videocam…
re: Leafs vs. Leafs. No. We’ll need to pick teams. I was going to pick the Leafs, but figuring I was GM of the league, I decided to let someone else have that honor.
I’m going with the Sharks. That means a regular season dominance and first round playoff bow out.

Looks like you’ll have to set up a draft to be the Leafs since everyone should want to be them.

I’ll think of something…
I designed it to be a 32 team league, so, theoretically, one could pick either the East or West Coast All-Stars…

A question
do you all want to use the headsets?
I don’t care either way, truth be told, I don’t usually use them unless it’s COD or something. Maybe we can just leave it up to the individual matches…?

If we join ...
the league, we don’t have to wait for Jared, right? He can play his games once he gets his shit up and running.
In the meantime, I can destroy all of you with the Canucks and finally get Mats Sundin the Cup he deserves.

I would play but for 3 small issues
1. I suck at console games now (but if I was still 12, you would all get a hurtin’)
2. I got married last year and I want to enjoy the sex while I can.
3. I don’t own an Xbox(my wife’s ex owned every console imaginable, and since he spent all waking moments on it, she does not approve – see #2)

When I first met my wife I had a PS2 and she had an XBOX so we bought a Gamecube together
Now that we’re married we bought a Wii and I picked up a PS3 a couple weeks back….

Probably just in my particular case, with her history with the ex. Besides, I haven’t had much motivation for console games, as every time I do play, my friends hand my ass to me on a platter.

How do you do player movements in an online league. I’m playing as LA so I want to see if there is a goalie I can pick up off free agency
40 years we've stayed loyal, waited, and pained. That is the honor of being a Leafs' fan.
you don’t, these leagues don’t work like dynasty mode; they’re basically just a system to play your friends online and view the results.
but
you can trade players, if you can sucker anybody into one.
Also, if you guys send me (gt: Phraz) a message to play and I don’t respond it’s likely cause I’m idle or my roommate is playing.
I’m playing as detroit and need a goalie too.
