2009 Mock NHL Entry Draft Board

Here at SBNation we're doing a 2009 NHL mock draft, and since we've been voting on players to put on the draft board it's time to finalize things up a little bit. :

Magnus Paajarvi-Svensson (3.73)

Brayden Schenn (3.65)

Jared Cowen (3.60)

So PPPers, have at it. What's the order we should draft these three in tomorrow with our 7th overall pick?

Man, I still like Paajarvi-Svensson better than Cowen.

Skill wise, I say yes, but I want a no-nonsense ass kicking defense. I want teams affraid to go into the crease. I want oposition forwards to pee themselves a little every time they rush the zone.
That is why I want Cowen

Cowen and Schenn would be terrifying (assuming Cowen’s injury is healed)

TSN’s mock draft is saying no lasting effects from the knee injury.

Kane looks like he is going to be an awesome player.
If the Leafs draft one of Kane, Schenn, MSP or COwen I will be content

Kane already went to Atlanta in this mock draft. Mirtle is going to start featuring the picks tomorrow.

Not in this mock draft!

But yes, in real life.

Kane has issues. Do not want.

I have a simple request

albeit a two parter;

1. Draft the best player available. We have needs everywhere, so no matter what positional player is available, we’ll need him.
2. Draft the player who will be able to excel in the pressure that is Leafs Nation.

I think that #1 is in Burke’s head.

You should never draft based on positional need ever for any reason no matter what.

i mean

some folks say we need a forward, while others want even more d depth. I want a capable prospect.

I say, draft whoever is there, forward, d or goalie (i know, none ranked top 10, just saying…)

agreed, because at the very least, you get a trade option if you end up with a log jam at a certian position

Agreed. Draft the best prospect available and then find a position for him. Not the other way around.

but I feel inclined to post this youTube link to Tavares’ highlight goal at the World Juniors.

Still want…

I liked that play except for one thing… Maguire busting a nut after it happened.
I bet Miller wanted to go down and slap him after Maguire cut him off.

The US game and the semi with Russia were absolutely epic encounters. The final with Sweden was fun too but it almost felt like a bit of a letdown in comparison.

GET ME BURKE ON THE PHONE

I have a foolproof idea to get Schenn 2.0 in the blue and white. And we won’t have to trade a thing.

Sorry. So… draft interview time, right. Through Luke, BB makes it known that Brayden should start pretending to be wasted when talking to other potential teams and mentioning things like his love of wearing nurses outfits. Then, when they are all scared off, we get him at 7. GREAT SUCCESS

I had this discussion with a buddy of mine.

How do some players get signed so quickly on July 1st? There have to be some prior talks

I would tend to agree. Now if Mama and Papa Schenn sat Brayden down and told him to act wasted and found themselves with brand new jobs at MLSE then that’s another thing…

Obviously UFA deals are worked out pre 7/1. But do teams and draftees try to game the system?

You all missed the one possible flaw in our plan – after two weeks of Brayden acting like Bret Michaels, Snow sees him as a ‘diamond in the rough’ and takes him #1 overall.

I voted C/S/M only because I think we won’t get to pick Schenn 2.0…And honestly Cowen (if I spell it wrong, I might be losing my blood shortly) would make a superior consolation prize!

I get the sense Burke would prefer either Cowen or Schenn the Younger to MJP, but I could be wrong. And I’m confident that regardless of where he ends up he’ll draft the best player available, no question.
