Brian Burke is fairly non-committal about this whole Dany Heatley thing

Not to poop on the festivities, but maybe have a little bit of leeway for extenuating circumstances (see Zezel, Peter)
but yes, I do love the man.

I don’t think Burkie has ever or wil everl ackowledge that he could have handled the Zezel situation differently.
A Nation of Masochists a blog dedicated to Toronto sports fans, who are continually punished but keep coming back for more.
I think that the way he handled Bryz and Kronwall and his statement that if a player deserves to play in the NHL that he will not stand between him and that chance indicate that he’s learned from that mistake.

Haha
Fantastic
I don’t want him either, not with that attitude but Burke also said what we’re all thinking, ain’t right for a player to go public with a trade demand right away, I don’t think Murray did anything to justify that sorta action. If the GM refuses and you really want out, then you can argue that they have a legit reason to go public but to go public before the GM has had a chance to even react? That’s dick-ish.

when you’re doing that to a GM who has pampered you so much since they acquired you…

obviously, there are a few locker room issues to resolve on that team…

Not to question the Pope, but....
Why did he take Pronger after that Edmonton fiasco?
And who was allegedly banging Pronger’s wife?

I’d rather not mention it on here, suffice it to say it was phenomenally stupid and retiring from hockey was his penance to the people that he hurt the most.

I might elaborate in Montreal on draft day, if properly drunk motivated. But too many people read these posts.

Pronger’s just that good.

Not to mention, when the GM tries damage control and says “Well, we’re going to talk about his issues” don’t come out right away and say “Nope, we did that. I want out”

Until he doesn’t trade up at the draft ;)

I only want him trading up if it means we land in the top 3.
Anything else is a waste as the talent level drop off just isn’t that precipitous.

You know, given what I’ve heard about his lack of community service hours in Atlanta, I’d say Dany Heatley doesn’t need any advice from Burke about not finishing a sentence.

Ummm...
Didn’t Chris Pronger publicly request a trade just one year after signing a long-term contract?
And wasn’t Brian Burke the one who traded for him?
Of course he was. But hey, that was way back in the summer of 2006 – times have changed, values have shifted.
If Burke doesn’t want Heatley (which seems obvious) it’s a hockey decision or a cap management decision. It certainly isn’t a moral one.
It's only my opinion, but it's right.

I think the difference might be that Pronger asked Lowe for a trade and Lowe chose to make it public,

Naw
It’s different as Puck Daddy and Staples noted. Pronger didn’t come out publicly and ask for a trade. That idiot Lowe decided that his best negotiating tactic was to take an amazing asset and devalue it. A fool and his stud defenceman are soon parted for ‘five assets’.
Otherwise that might be as turncoatish and hypocritical as writing for a Canucks site along with two Oilers sites.

Also, I heard the entire interview and he emphasises that it’s a problem when players make it public. he believes that they owe it to their team to keep their mouths shut to allow the GM to get the best return possible.
Pension Plan Puppets: A Toronto Maple Leafs blog and a group therapy session.
Firstly I love the attitude. I love how he’s basically saying that if a player doesn’t want to play for his team then they can get to fuck.
Secondly, there’s an implied dismissiveness toward Heatley. Burke’s attitude is effectively, ‘You want a trade. That means, I don’t care about you anymore.’ Burke doesn’t like players who request trades; therefore he hates Heatley. And that’s before we get into Heatley’s aversion to two-way play – an attitude best described as ‘non-Burkian’.
I like how our GM hates Heatley. It makes me feel warm and fuzzy.
So. It follows that I love Burke, too.
