Hart Trophy - Most Valuable Player
via cdn.nhl.com
Pavel Datsyuk - DET
Evgeni Malkin - PIT
Alex Ovechkin - WAS
I think Ovechin will take this again. Malkin had Crosby to support him and Datsyuk had a stellar team around him. Without Ovie Washington would be hard pressed to even be in a playoff spot.
Calder Trophy - Best Rookie
via cdn.nhl.com
Steve Mason - CBJ
Bobby Ryan - ANA
Kris Versteeg - CHI
Why Pekka Rinne got no consideration is a mystery to me but the nod should go to Mason. He backstopped a Blue Jackets team into their first playoff spot and was far and away the best player on their team.
Vezina Trophy - Best Goalie
via cdn.nhl.com
Niklas Backstrom - MIN
Steve Mason - CBJ
Tim Thomas - BOS
I would vote for Tim Thomas. Unconventional but effective.
Norris Trophy - Best Overall Defenseman
via cdn.nhl.com
Zdeno Chara - BOS
Mike Green - WAS
Nicklas Lidstrom - DET
For the first time I think that Nick Lidstrom will be knocked off his pedestal. It's not because he had a bad season because he was once again solid but because people are so used to his greatness by now they're looking for something else. I expect Chara to get it as both he and Green were solid offensive contributors Chara was more fearsome on the defensive side.
Selke Trophy - Best Defensive Forward
via cdn.nhl.com
Pavel Datsyuk - DET
Ryan Kesler - VAN
Mike Richards - PHI
Datsyuk is just so solid on both ends of the ice he deserves to win this award again.
Jack Adams Award - Coach of the Year
via cdn.nhl.com
Todd McLellan
Claude Julien - BOS
Andy Murray - STL
At one point in the season I could have been sure it would have been Julien but with the way the Blues came on at the end to make the playoffs my vote (if I had one) would go to Murray.
Bill Masterton Award - Perserverence/Dedication to Hockey
via cdn.nhl.com
Chris Chelios - DET
Steve Sullivan - NAS
Richard Zednik - FLA
Zednik got his throat slashed and came back to play hockey. I repeat, he got his throat slashed and came back. If that isn't dedication I don't know what is.

I think Pekka gets no love due to his age. I think the cut off for rookies is 24 and he’s 26…
Hart – Ovechkin
Calder – Mason
Vezina – Thomas
Norris – Chara
Selke – Richards (although, just as easily could see it going to Datsyuk. Both are deserving…)
Adams – Julien
Masterson – Zednik
So, ya, gonna have a Boston flavor tonight is my thinking…

Regarding Rinne my first thought was the age factor but the rule for rookies is
The player must not be older than 26 years before September 15 of the season in which he is eligible.
As of September 15, 2008, Rinne was 25 years old because his birthday is in November, so he would have been eligible.

Rinne and Mason put up similar numbers. Mason did it six years younger and took a team to the playoffs for the first time.

that must be it...
he’s not that good.
Ryan was SICK once he was called up, but Mason played more games I think, and was more of a factor in his teams success.

yep. I’m not denying Mason’s better than Rinne but my 3 nominees would be Rinne, Mason and Ryan.

Bobby Ryan is stupid good. I wouldn’t be THAT surprised if he took it over Mason.

I would give the awards….

Selke to Datsyuk
Vezina to Bäckström (gotta give some love to my home country…)

Как же так может быть?
that’s some fine euro-centric picking you’ve done there…

I think Cherry is deciding to adopt Ovechkin as a Canadian. That way he can live with all 3 Hart nominees being European.

I assume he has even worse problem with the fact that they’re all Russians too…
Ovechkin – good old Canadian kid. It does have something…
Как же так может быть?
He was saying basically that about Malkin

I was just looking at the past winners of the Hart Trophy, Jose Theodore’s name sure does stick out like a sore thumb.

I’m so out of touch with this place I didn’t realize the awards were tonight!
Malkin for the Hart.

This awards show is pathetic. They hae the awrds in a glass case behind the players, the script is written by a grade student and the presenters (see Muller, Kirk) can’t even pronounce the names of the players .

Painful to watch. I could understand everything Datsyuk said, No idea what Kirk Muller was mumbling.
