Turns out the Bruins did want the 7th overall included with Kaberle in the package for Kessel. In other news, Brian Burke is not JFJ.

Deal is off...

Again, thank the lord JFJ is not GM here anymore.

And what the hell is Boston thinking? When did they suffer this massive head trauma? Nobody sane makes that deal. Nobody.

Perhaps they thought we were higher on Kessel than we actually are? Who knows…

i’d do it for Kabby and a second round pick, but not out first rounder…

Chiarelli used to work for the Sens, yes? Perhaps this is proof that no matter how hard you try, you can’t get that Sens funk out of you once it has taken hold. Warrants mentioning.

I can’t believe that’s what Boston was seriously expecting as a return for Kessel. Crazy planet!

by dare_ on Jun 26, 2009 5:59 PM EDT reply actions

Maybe if Kessel was signed to a long-term affordable deal. But for an RFA who’s looking for $4M, that’s crazy.

Exactly. But he’s an RFA who wants tonnes of money. No way.

Perhaps. But a 21 year old who just scored 36 goals, while missing 11 games PLUS a draft pick for Kaberle seems like a steal for the Leafs.

For a lower draft pick? Sure. Not for the 7th pick in a good draft.

Oh, the Kaberle plus 7th is too much. But the other proposed/misunderstood deal was Kessel + Boston draft pick (either their first, 3rd or next year’s first) for Kaberle clearly favoured the Leafs.

I don’t mean to sound like a broken record, but Kessel had a season with a nearly 16% shooting percentage. That’s a total outlier. If he shoots at his usual (and more leage average-ish) 11% he’s a 25 goal man.

I really don’t think that shooting rate is remotely sustainable.

Probably not, since it is extraordinarily high. But Kessel is 21 years old. 21.

He may be 21, I’m just having a hard time predicting his ceiling. Is he going to be a consistent 35+ goal man, or will he revert back to 20 to 25 goals?

I just found out he had off-season shoulder surgery to repair a rotator cuff and torn labrum. Who knows what the implications of that are and how durable he is.

I don’t know, I think I prefer Kessell to a lot of players being bandied about right now. Maybe even over Cammalleri. The upside is still prevalent and he’s established. However, Kessel is from all accounts, a shy individual, so his transition to Toronto and its intense media glare probably wouldn’t be so smooth.

The Sportsnet draft panel is Kypreos, Doug MacLean and Brian Lawton. Their combined IQ might break triple digits. Maybe.

I think you’re being a touch generous. I know they’ll break double digits, but that’s only because the three of them are combined. That’s a lot of stupidity on one panel.

They made triple digits, but then realized they’d confused addition with multiplication.

Brian Lawton is on the panel? So after he screws up makes the pick for Tampa Bay, he’s hustling over to join the Sportsnet panel? That would be all kinds of stupid.

As for the other 2 clowns, the less said the better.

And they thought that would get our two best assests for one player….why?

by Clawson on Jun 26, 2009 6:09 PM EDT reply actions

Because they are crazy. That’s the only explanation.

If we were playing in a quiz show, you’d now have to sit out the next two rounds for mentioning that.
