2009 NHL Draft: Why The Toronto Maple Leafs Did Not Pick 118th
The punishment passed unnoticed by almost everyone. The circumstances behind the punishment have never really been explained to the satisfaction of myself and many other Leafs fans. Here's what we've written on the subject:
- Favouritism to Toronto? - The forfeited pick came on the heels of Burke's controversial but legal trade with the Lightning.
- Why Did Bettman Choose the Lightning's 4th Rounder? - Seems pretty convenient that they chose the pick that raised the hackles of so many observers.
- Unasked Questions About Frogren - A look at some of the things that bothered me and continue to do so about the punishment.
We can probably expect to hear about how any successful player taken around the pick could have been a Leaf but for Fletcher's senility. Here are some names to look out for over the next few years:
- Byron Froese, Everett WHL
- Ben Chiarot, Guelph OHL
- Nick Petersen, Shawinigan QJMHL

Odd how the Frogren deal was illegal, but yet the League allowed him to play all year.
Quite the coincidence? If Lou Lammoriello would have done it, everyone would have praised it as a great move.
