Leafs issue Pogge a Qualifying Offer.
Not the biggest news. Just retains his RFA status and the Leafs can match any offer by other teams.

yay!
I have a soft spot for Pogge so I’m hoping they give him another development year….

Right Move
Worst case scenario, he competes for the Marlies job with Reimer. Reimer wins, and we start developing Reimer as a prospect.
Best-case scenario, he realizes his status as “Goalie of the Future” is in jeopardy with Reimer (and hopefully the Monster) and he makes strides technically under Allaire.
Besides, as an organization, we don’t have the depth to start being picky about our prospects.

me hopes Burke put a good scare into him
JFJ would have given him a 4 year 20 mill contract

I think that was the hole point of going public. The kid obviously has some entitlement issues (thank you MSM!) and needed to be knocked down a peg or three…

Agreed
I don’t think there was any chance Burke was going to give up on him. He just wanted to end the sense of entitlement that he felt was so prevalent under the previous regime.

I think it was a little media swollen ego and the fact the previous regime didn’t ground him when they had the chance. I think that’s been Burke’s plan all along.

I will say this.
While we don’t have a large enough sample size to see Burke’s impact re: new players, the impact on existing/former players has already been remarkable.

I think thats the kind of GM we’ve needed for the Leafs. Re-shaping the identity is as important inside the current players as it is in bringing in new blood.

The man is not afraid to speak his mind. For example – Toskala WILL be a much better goalie next year
Disappointed since 1984
