And Now for Something Completely Different
In a nod to my fellow FTB'er, the following video is everything I've ever known in regards to the UK. It might also explain why some lurkers just won't sign up...
We had a busy day around these parts yesterday. I don't know about you, but for me, it sure helped the time fly by. Since the only hockey being played in the NHL doesn't involve the Leafs, I'll take all the help I can get in passing the hours, days, weeks and yes, even months ahead .
What about you? No, not you, the other person. Ya you, lurker. Come on in and join the fun. The English fellow only comes around on weekends now, no need to be frightened. Sign up, and before you know it, we'll be watching Gustavsson backstop the new look Leafs complete with two Sedins and a Cammalleri (uh-oh, I hope I didn't just jinx that...)
To the links, post haste!
- Our friends at MLHS bring word of a signing or three. No, it's none of the players I previously mentioned, and no, that does not mean I've jinxed it.
- What's Hamilton got that Phoenix doesn't? Well, there's flammable water for starters.
- TSM has more on the instant classic that was Brian Burke's interview yesterday. In a positively Transformian twist, there is more to this than meets the eye.
- Norman James asks the tough question: Should the Balsille bid go through, what will the Winni-Phoeni-peg Jet-yotes be called?
- Nik Antropov. A Leaf, again? MLHS floats the idea, while Checking From Behind takes it a step futher. That giggity sound you heard wasn't just PPP's Quagmire impression.
- Scratch David Krejci off your wish list. Cornelius takes the news in his usual stoic fashion.
- Newest member of the Barilkosphere, Leafs Leaks takes us on a dizzying tour of NHL coaching vacancies.
- Much like the Hulk, the most recent Loser Domi sighting is a flash of rage and fury.
- Lost in the glamor and glitz that was the KHL's recent draft, is it's impact on the CHL. Out of Left Field takes a closer look at some of those issues.
- Did you know that there are other players to be drafted after Tavares, Hedman and Duchene? Crazy, I know, but it's true.
- And finally, an infomercial product who's time has come.
UPDATED
- Bitter Leaf, mf37, talks about the sweet, soothing sounds of silence emmanating from MLSE these days.

As much as I’d like to see Antro back, I really enjoyed the way Poni blossomed without him at the end of the season.

Is it too early so start bashing him? Pointing out for example that the MLHS and Checking From Behind are both the same posts at different sites?

This photo encapsulates all that I love about Hamilton. Shouldn’t judge a book by its cover and all, but just looking at this woman I imagine that – outside of Ivor Wynne – she’s pleasant, soft spoken and the kindest, most demure soul you’d ever meet. On a Friday night with the boatmen in town though, you’ll find her in Box E, wearing her hand-crafted hat with the giant “Argos Suck” button affixed to it most prominently and unabashedly. Beautiful.

Coaching Vacancies
It’ll be interesting to see who the Wild are going to select. It seems like it’ll be Darryl behind the Flames bench.
And when does Granato get officially canned? Poor SOB still thinks he has a job.
Pension Plan Puppets: A Toronto Maple Leafs blog and a group therapy session.
obviously the Avs put all their eggs in the Roy basket, and with him saying “thanks, but no thanks” I’m not entirely sure what options they’ve got left.
sounds like they want to get the GM situation resolved, and considering the draft is coming up fast, that’s not a bad idea.

"Granato didn't see firing coming"
I thought this was just a mis-leading headline, and then I read the article:
“No, I didn’t see it coming,” Granato told Sportsnet.ca
No word if the follow-up question was, “What, are you blind?!?”
Considering the Avs pursued Raycroft and Tucker and Granato didn’t see the firing coming, I can only conclude no outside media coverage is available in Denver.

Francois Beauchemin
Age: 28 2008-09 Salary: $1.6million
A consummate minute muncher in Anaheim, Beauchemin was all but unknown when Burke splashed out for him early in his Ducks tenure. Little more than a safe pair of hands, Beauchemin plays a simple but physical game and, while his offense can be streaky, Beauchemin has proven a useful point man albeit used sparingly as such in Anaheim. If his salary can stay around the $2million mark Beauchemin could be a less glitzy band aid in the Toronto back line.

I was hoping the Leafs would ink Finger last year, but I estimated he’d go for $1.5 to $2M – in the same ballpark as Sauer in PHX. He signed for a well-known, oft-criticized $3.5M.
I know the cap is shrinking and it’s economic armageddon, but given the paucity of solid d-men out available and the lack of depth in this year’s UFA crop, there is no way Beauchemin goes for $2M/year (unless it’s a 20 year deal).
Bitter Leaf Fan: a life-long Toronto Maple Leafs fan comments on the team, the media and the exasperation...

he could easily exceed the $3.5M number.
