Can't Hardly Wait
I'm exhausted. I'll write you a letter tomorrow, tonight I can't hold a pen. Hurry up, hurry up, ain't you had enough of this stuff? Ashtray floors, dirty clothes, and filthy jokes...my favorite Replacements tune, and my favorite version of said tune to close out June:
Also, tomorrow is the dawn of a new day, take two. It's why it's a National Holiday in Canada. Freedom-shmeedom, it's the beggining of free agency!
- MLHS tries to figure if it's better to overpay for two players, or just over pay for one. Also, Mike Cammalleri is awesome.
- Neate Sager sees a hockey player, the MSM sees a change we can believe in. Are they both right?
- Norman James looks at the big decision to be made over the off season: Pop Kadri's fandom.
- Justin Pogge went from dead meat to reclamation project last night. Toronto Mike has the details.
- The Hockey Spy does a comparative analysis of the Draft Ranking services. You'll think you've read it all before...
- Puck Daddy apologizes to the NYI visionaries, and has a quick blurb on PPP's new bestest friend!
- Brian Burke quotes are twice as awesome when translated out of, and then back into English.
- The Hat looks at the best free agents. Get ready to laugh at Montreal.
- Does Alec have the Leafs' free agent hit list? Where do unqualified RFAs like Marcel Goc, Brett McLean, and their ilk fit into the blueprint?
UPDATE!:
- eyebleaf gets us up to date on his feeling for Kadri (Nazem if you're nasty.) I think I speak for the both of us when I say:Giggity
- The Bitter Leaf, mf37 takes a look at the UFA's available and the Leafs needs. I'm just surprised he didn't ask "How Soon Is Now?"
- Steve's list reminds me a lot of a certain team's roster. I can't quite put my finger on it...
- TSM wonders if expectations will be met or if we'll be seeing Burke slapping another single through the infield.
- Wrap tells the tale of a young woman in the big (for Quebec) city and her adventures in draft-going.
Don't forget to follow all the comings and going tomorrow, right here on SBN at the NHL Free Agency Hub! Go on, you know want to click it. ..

Dear Burkie Claus
I want some pugnacity, testosterone, truculence and belligerence for the Leafs. Please sign any or all of the following UFAs:
Ian Laperriere, RW/C
Stephane Veilleux, LW
Chris Neil, LW
Brad May, RW
Travis Moen, RW
Francois Beauchemin, D
The Sedin twins and/or Mike Cammalleri would be nice, too.
TRUCULENCE

Field a team of nothing but Moens, Malhotras, Mays, Marchants and Morrisons and stick all the kids in the minors for one more year.

If his name was Chris Meil I’d take him. It would fit in with my plan to have nothing but players with surnames starting with “M” join the team as UFAs.

Yes
Because as MF37 said, he doesn’t fight in the ACC.

A special request
Please don’t put Kadri in the could-be-cursed Sports and the City Banner. Jason Blake and Vernon Wells sure would look great up there.

You’re right, it really could be cursed. All three currently in there could be gone within the year. Egads. No Kadri or Schenn.

In 2004 in Boston during the playoffs the city cleaned the graffiti off that sign every day, and every night someone else climbed back up and spray painted it again. When the Sox won it stayed there all winter.

Jesus Price rides beside me, he never buys any smokes
Fantastic track this morning. Saw the Mats just once back in ’89 and it was magic.
On a sports related note, this song makes an appearance during a montage in the draft Moneyball script that’s floating around the net (Billy Beane also goes to a Westerberg club show as part of the movie).
On to the Leafs – I’ve put up my best guesses about the Leafs and UFAs (with a Smiths song referenced in the title). Upon further consideration, maybe I should have gone with Little Mascara.

Love it.

Late last night
I posted about Pogge’s contract status and my list of potential Leafs UFA targets… I don’t have a list like Alec, but in comparing my list and what is (supposedly) Burke’s list, there’s at least 6 I’ve mentioned out of the 12.
1 sleep left.

I'm pretty sure he's talking about the Leafs.
3 Ducks...
Does not a team make.
They just outnumber every other squad represented on the list. I could also add Joel Ward, Vern Fiddler, and Johnny Oduya to the list. I did consider adding Gionta to the list until I remembered he’s a slightly younger Jason Blake and we’ve already got one of those we’re trying to get rid of.

honest engine. My current Leafs franchise season on NHL09 has Blake and Gionta on wings with Kyle Turris up the middle.

heh
Yeah, it’s a joke. It makes sense for Burke to get guys that he is familiar with that he knows can fill roles he knows need filling.
I like the idea of Ward, Fiddler, and Oduya. I am surprised the Devils are letting him go.
Pension Plan Puppets: A Toronto Maple Leafs blog and a group therapy session.
Oh I got it
I just think I should point out that there are also 2 Sharks on the list (of course Moen was never coached by Wilson), and if we add in Oduya that means 2 Devils also.
Basically poach the top teams in the League of all their cast offs is what I’m getting at.
Makes you wonder why they’re cast offs though…

No kidding. A lot of those guys (Oduya signed, dammit) are good players. Looks like they might just be casualties of the cap

it sure is
but what does it mean…?
that whole link, near as I can tell, was a Leaf’s article fed through either Babel Fish or Google translator, into Chinese (i’m assuming) and then fed back through again to get the English version.
Why? I have no idea…
