Nerding Out
This is your Friday FTB and it's gonna get a bit geeky up in here. Here is the Entertainment Weekly cover with Iron Man. Is Tony Starks a UFA and would he play forward for the Maple Leafs? Who would you put on your comic book team? You can mix Marvel and DC characters unless you are purist and the idea of combining is blasphemy.
Here are you links. This is how we do it;
- Oddly I feel like this post is missing the crucial "...back in November." My head is spinning, I feel like I need a graph to diagram just what the [Tlusty Scale] is going on. No, Howard Berger didn't write it.
- How Patrick Sharp could potentially fit in with the Leafs.
- Here is a story about some hockey brothers you don't hear a lot about; Steve, Mark and Dominic Moore.
- Hypothetically, if you won the contest to the naming rights of the Ottawa Civic Center, what would you call it? Me, I'm going with Princess Curl's Awesome Center.
- Petr Sykora was a bit candid with the Czech press and torched a bridge or thirty with the Penguins organization. I am wondering how long until there is a press release that comes out claiming a mistranslation.
- And interview with the Windsor Spitfire coach Bob Boughner about the trials and transformation of his team which won the Memorial Cup
- We have something in common with The Pensblog, a supreme disliking of Dany Heatley. You've seen some of these before, but they are still funny.
- The importance of JFJ to the Leafs organization.
- Your non hockey link of the day; Cake Wrecks, a collection of horribad cakes. Just because it's allegedly a cake, doesn't mean I'm going to eat it.
Happy Friday. I'm on weekend FTBs now so it would help a lot if you adjust posting times accordingly in case Google reader is lagging. You can always email me the links.
Lunchtime Power-Up;
- Carlton the Bear is Truculent Life.
- We are still working on Project C'est Something Nice. It's for the children.

we’d need to get together characters with lots of truculence, good guys or villians. I see Juggernaut, Wolverine and Batman all fitting the need for truculence and skill. I bet Superman and Spiderman would me first line scorers. And the Flash is rather swift. Is that nerding out enough? Obscure ones would be funnier!

Going with a Burkian combination of skill backed by truculence, I present Team Marvel:
Silver Surfer, Daredevil, Colossus
Sue Storm, Spiderman, Kitty Pryde
Deadpool, Wolverine, Luke Cage
Juggernaught, Hulk, The Thing
The Beast, Thor
Dr Doom, Nick Fury
Sabertooth, Venom
Mr Fantastic in Goal

You have Daredevil on the top line over Spiderman?! I like the 4th line though. Solid. And Mr. Fantastic in goal has Vezina written all over him.

I went with a bit more size on the top line and pure elusiveness on the second. Flip Spidey and Daredevil if you like. Actually, maybe put Spidey on the top line with Colossus moving down. Also, after a bit of reflection, I’d drop Nick Fury in favour of Omega Red.

Kaberle for Zack Kassian, straight up, no problem here at all. He’s the next Lucic.

With Duchene signing, and Sakic retiring does that mean it’s almost a certainty that Duchene plays with the big boys next season? For some reason, I didn’t think that was a lock to occur, but it sure seems to make the most sense now.

Ya he is, but to be thrown in to that mess after only 2 years of junior could be a recipe for disaster. Then again, what do I know?

funny thing about COL
this past season, as crappy as they did, I never got the impression they sucked, if that makes any sense.
Wolski and Svatos are still young and good. Stastny is going to be an All Star and, barring serious injury, an eventual HHOF member (ya, I said it, he’s that good…)
Goaltending is a mess, but they’ve got decent pieces everywhere else.

I agree, they have some young parts in place. Statsny is gonna be incredible.
They need some help on the backend more than offence tho
