Sharp for XLB and a pick that’s a whole different story.

seeing as how the trade is for cap relief, and not really the player, i don’t see them biting on XLB

No single trade is going to get them the cap relief that they need to sign Toews and Kane unless someone takes on Bryan Campbell which won’t happen.

They’ll be able to get both but it’ll take a lot of manouevring and negotiation.

they got some relief with Khabibulin not signing, but half of that was then taken up by Barker’s $3M.
They’re paying Huet way too much money, and Campbell. No one is going to take either of those guys off their hands.

Same. At the end of the day we’re shipping out a guy who’s been named the most likely to go pro by QMJHL coaches (or GMs?) for a guy whose big year is a hell of an outlier.
Not to mention that any team trading with the Hawks is doing them a favour. Why sweeten the pot? This isn’t Bob Gainey running things.

per wiki
His play so far throughout the 2008-09 QMJHL Season has exemplified that he is starting to become a more consistent and driven player. These improvements have been credited, some say, to his pre-season tryout with the Maple Leafs, where he befriended fellow Belorussian Mikhail Grabovski and Russian Nikolai Kulemin. In order to make the team, he realized he needed to improve these negative aspects of his game.

yeah, at the right price, I think Burkie might bite if all he gets back from the D trades (and there will be at least one) are picks and non-nhl ready prospects
Because Taking The Leafs Seriously Is Not An Option
by JaredFromLondon on Jul 17, 2009 4:16 PM EDT up reply actions
If he wanted Tanguay he likely would have signed him already. Tanguay is so desperate that he is personally calling teams to talk.
I think Burke is going to get a top 6 via trade or see what he’s got already.
Pension Plan Puppets: A Toronto Maple Leafs blog and a group therapy session.
and that trade will only come at the behest of another team. I don’t know that Burke is out there shaking hands and kissing babies attempting to get himself a player. he wants to take advantage of a team in need of cap relief. and when they come to the Leafs looking for that, he’ll hold all the cards.
And for the record, i’m not a fan of the Sharp for Stefanovich trade. just doing my part to play the devil’s advocate….

I agree that we have too many D men as it is, but Cam Barker is going to be very very good in a few years, and if you can get him, then go for it. We can always trade away some D for forwards.
And let’s be honest here, an excess of D is never a bad thing.
Who’s going to take Finger? Van Ryn? Beauchemin was just signed. Is there going to be a big demand for Frogren?
A Nation of Masochists TRUCULENCE!! It's not just a word. It's a way of life.
Hello Marlies, here is your new defenceman Jonas Van Finger.
Pension Plan Puppets: A Toronto Maple Leafs blog and a group therapy session.
I was just going to say, bury them in the minors.
Hockey is a competitive business, you perform, and you’ll stay in the NHL.
Plus this would really push all our D men to compete for spots.
Yeah but then we’d still be missing the elite forward (not that I think Sharp is elite).
A Nation of Masochists TRUCULENCE!! It's not just a word. It's a way of life.
This is true, but quite frankly if there are no elite forwards to be had right now, why not keep stocking up on good solid young D?
I’d love if they could get Barker but if the cost is a young prospect ie. Stefanovich I don’t think it’s worth it because we have d-men in abundance.
A Nation of Masochists TRUCULENCE!! It's not just a word. It's a way of life.
Oh of course, personally I consider Stefanovich to be essentially untouchable IMO. I would be very very shocked if Burke traded him, especially considering he has the potential to be a solid top 6 forward, something the Leafs don’t have right now really.

No. Fucking. Way.
I am tired of this team trading away prospects, I don’t think Burke would make this deal.
yeah, if you make the trade, you’ll certainly end up with an underachieving Sharp while Stefanovich will go on to be a superstar. Of course if you don’t make the trade, Sharp will win the hart this coming year, and Stefanovich will end up being the next Brandon Convery

I feel bad everytime I go to that site, but I go for the Andy Strickland updates. I still don;t understand why he doesn’t go somewhere more reputable.
Because he has decided that it’s worth more to him to get the exposure of being on Hockey Buzz than it is to have any integrity.
Also, he falsely reported last year that whites at home were coming back and that Pronger had officially be traded to LA. He’s just like Eklund.

Yea he’s reported some stuff like that, but I would say 90% of the time he’s accurate, as apposed to Douchbag Dwayne’s .09% success rate.
Those are massive misses + staying with Hockey Buzz = 0 credibility for me.

OLAS also cut his hair too. I think it’s for a fresh start.

Welcome
Thanks for joining.
Hawks fans have a love/hate relationship with Byfuglien because of his work ethic. Wonder if that might open a window.

Oh and I’d rather hang onto Stefanovich.

So uh
Didn’t I just make a blog post today listing all the reasons I wouldn’t be comfortable trading someone like Stefanovich for Sharp? Pretty sure it’s in the FTB. Pretty topical of me :D
Seriously though, to reiterate, no no no fuck no, no. No. Sharp isn’t much better than any other forward currently residing in our top 6, and I mean that.
depends if you throw Stajan in there or not

last season Stajan was 25, he put up 15 goals and 55 points. Sharp when he was 25 put up 20 goals and 35 points. Before then Sharp had never put up 10 goals or 25 points, Stajan has been putting up at least those numbers since he’s been in the NHL.
Put it to you this way. Matt Stajan has more career NHL points than Patrick Sharp does while being 2 years younger. He also makes less than half as much money.
Very Topical. You get a gold star because I liked your arguments.

Keep Stefanovich. Lets see what this kid can do before we get rid of him. There is a chance he will bomb and then be worth next to nothing, but better off making that mistake than giving away someone who could be a very good player.
