Atlanta Thrashers Sign Nik Antropov
It's a four year deal worth $16M so it looks like Mark Gandler, while being a horrible human being, wasn't completely insane.

Armstrong and Little for starters
this gives them some decent second line scoring now. which is good for antro, I was never sold on him being a top line guy, but he’ll really excel with this role.

I dunno why
I think IT is filtering TSN or something cuz their website only shows up as all text now for me

no
its been doing that to me for like the last month now
very irritating, they’ve been trying to clamp down on bandwidth usage pretty badly this year, can’t stream anything anymore and I have noticed that a lot of the more popular/code-heavy websites no longer display properly (all-text-only-display)

Probably centers Kovalchuk
I’m guessing ATL
Kovalchuk-Antropov-Little
Kozlov-White-Peverly
Machacek/Kane-Reasoner-Armstrong
Boulton-Slater-Thorburn
I think Antro can keep up if that’s the case.

I don’t know if Antro has the speed to play with Kovalchuk.
He’s great down low, has good hand-eye in front of the net and will likely prosper on the power play, but he’s horrible off the rush.

that’s what I was thinking. I think he’s more of a supportive offensive role.

Quotes from Nash
On TSN, most of you have probably already read it.
“Things didn’t line up the way I anticipated them lining up,” Nash told the Dispatch. "I thought we had a solid chance of getting (a contract) done, especially with all the interest they said they had going into this.
“If this doesn’t happen in the next week, and we can’t hit a number where we’re both satisfied and we both feel it’s fair … if they want me that bad, they’ll get it done.”
The Dispatch speculates that the club came forward with a five-year deal, which was unacceptable to the 25-year old Nash.
“There were tons of teams throwing some pretty big money around (Wednesday),” Nash said. “If this doesn’t get done, I’m sure I won’t have a problem getting signed by somebody next summer.”

I had the opposite reaction than most Leafs fans when I read this. I feel that they’re going to figure out a way to get a deal. I see Leafs fans hopes that Nash being a Leaf as the same as the dreams that Cammalleri would be one.

Nash
Does not go UFA, they will resign him, otherwise Dowson needs to trade him in March. If he does neither, he should find the biggest bridge he could find and just take a leap
Disappointed since 1984
Who's taking book on Nash?
We need a fanpost/fan shot to keep track of this. Maybe even a count-down clock to UFA day 2010.

Antropov talks about signing in Atlanta. Kovalchuk really wanted him to sign.

From that post
"Obviously I have to work for that. I can’t decide who I am going to play with. That’s the coach’s decision but I will do my best to prove myself and that I can play with Ilya."
Antropov knows exactly what the right answer is, and is full class. And this is the guy people loved to slag on and boo when he wasn’t in the lineup during his stay in Toronto. Good for Antropov finding a team that fits his style and could use a steady two-way presence in the top 6.

i’m going to miss niky, i thought he might sign back here again. he really got a rough ride in toronto for a lot of years, but he turned out to be one of the better picks of the first round in 98:
Tampa Bay Vincent Lecavalier
Nashville David Legwand
San Jose Brad Stuart
Vancouver Bryan Allen
Anaheim Vitaly Vishnevsky
Calgary Rico Fata
NY Rangers Manny Malhotra
Chicago Mark Bell
NY Islanders Michael Rupp
Toronto Nikolai Antropov
Carolina Jeff Heerema
Colorado Alex Tanguay
Edmonton Michael Henrich
Phoenix Patrick DesRochers
Ottawa Mathieu Chouinard
Mtl. Canadiens Eric Chouinard
Colorado Martin Skoula
Buffalo Dmitri Kalinin
Colorado Robyn Regehr
Colorado Scott Parker
Los Angeles Mathieu Biron
Philadelphia Simon Gagne
Pittsburgh Milan Kraft
St. Louis Christian Backman
Detroit Jiri Fischer
New Jersey Mike Van Ryn
New Jersey Scott Gomez
And Atlanta can thank us for giving him the time to become what he is today. Good luck Nik!
"We've had an ongoing problem with Grabovski this year." Bob Gainey, 4/04/09
interesting
that he’s been signed but Tanguay has not, when most people would probably say that Tanguay’s the better player out of that draft (obviously behind Lecavalier)
