The only reason I could see Burke signing him is because he feels bad for him and wants to help him out with his legal bills, since he was the GM of the Canucks when Bertuzzi lost it.

here's what happened

Moore had his back to Bert. Bert was yanking on his jersey, and when he realized Moore still wouldn’t play, Bertuzzi pulled himself towards Moore by pulling on the jersey, and took a swing at the guys head.

As Moore fell from the punch, Bertuzzi was still holding onto the jersey and going down with him. To break his own fall, Bertuzzi put his forearm behind Moore’s head. Then, the pile on occured. It’s all quite quick, but if you break it down, that’s the time line of events.

Bertuzzi was at least 230 lbs+ equipment at the time of the injury.

Care to try that and see how your neck holds out?

The video

Stalk me here...

by blurr1974 on Jul 28, 2009 4:49 PM EDT up reply actions

the neck damage happened on the fall. The pile-on exasperated the problem, but Bertuzzi is the culprit here. The others had no clue to the extent of the damage; were just trying to get in there and take care of business. Bertuzzi is an ass, and his actions are inexcusable, no matter how many times people try.

that said, I think the bitterness flowed too quick. I think they aren’t defending Bertuzzi as much as it appears, but stating their opinion that his actions were not an attempt to kill him, just to get revenge. Bertuzzi is still the villian not the commentors stating the fact they believe he wasn’t trying to kill him. Injure yes, kill no.

PPP here…I have a PhD in video diagnosis like that one American senator that thought he could be president but was really a huge tool and you’re right, the damage was coming because of the forearm shiver. The pile on exacerbated it but I would bet my medical license on it being all Bertuzzi’s fault. The rest is semantics. He wanted to injure Moore and then he wants pity because it worked out too well.

In all honesty, it’s not about the Bertuzzi incident. It happened, it was unfortunate as fuck, and Bertuzzi paid a heavy price. Obviously not as heavy a price as Steve Moore, but the wheels of justice aren’t always fair. Life is fucked like that.

From a pure hockey standpoint:

Nik Antropov put up 46 points in 63 games for the Leafs last season, and was a -14.

Bertuzzi put up 44 points in in 66 games for the Flames, and was a -13.

Everyone is wondering “OMG WHERE WILL THE OFFENCE COME FROM?” Well, if Bert comes at a bargain price, why not?

It’s not about whether I like the guy. He could step in and play a part on this team.

At possibly a higer price than last year considering Antro made $2M.

Also, they can ask it all that they want but the Leafs were 10th in scoring. They’ve asked “where are the goals coming from?!?!” every year since the lockout and surprise, surprise the goals come from everywhere.

Agreed

But as wiser men than I have said, two wrongs don’t make a right.

Two things I particularly hated about the Bertuzzi incident was that first, he stalked him around the ice, and second, I never believe he was truly remorseful. If Niedermeyer had of ended up with the injuries Moore did, and Domi didn’t show remorse after the fact, then I’d feel the same way about him.

Domi (and others who have done stupid things, ie. Hunter) got lucky, doesn’t mean Bertuzzi’s act doesn’t make me feel any less sick. And I always felt, they were (barely) hockey plays. Bertuzzi’s flat out wasn’t.

Bingo

Bertuzzi is not coachable at all. Look at a career of Spezza-esque drop passes and backbreaking stupid penalties. Who was in the box when Canada was pressing Switzerland in Turin? That’s right, our National Shame.

Hmmmm

My “mutterings” are missing. Apparently I don’t understand this whole internet thing. Somewhere there’s supposed to be something like this: “/muttering”

What is this phrase? I don’t understand it.

For the fuck of shit, no. I do not want him on the Leafs.

That’s all I will say on the matter.

As per new community rules; all signature tags on PPP must contain the word "truculent".

That’s a lot of no’s.

/captain obvious’d

Being a Leaf fan here requires one to be sufficiently lubricated... and truculent!

Tbh, I think (hope?) that this is random rumour-mongering. Burke’s got the Leafs screwed down pretty tight. The moves he’s made so far haven’t hit the press until after they’ve happened. We haven’t heard about who the Leafs are talking to, or the players involved. Even the Kaberle rumours are long on hyperbole and short on detail. It’s the Toronto media trying to find something to write about. As per normal.

Speculation’s fun and all, but these stories are coming from unconfirmed sources from outside the Leafs. I don’t really credit them.
