I kinda wanna beat something myself.

Who will be the next irrational great white hope?
2010 UFAs
Lidstrom
Luongo
Kovalchuk
Marc Savard
Boogaard

clearly
Boogaard is the class of that group.
But I think Tavares will be the next one to caush the type of fever the idea of signing Rick Nash caused.

Karina…that would be in 3 years for Tavares.I believe that Brayden Schenn will prove to be the better overall player by then and will be a Leaf when he is able to sign an offer sheet…in 3 or 4 years.

Zack Kassian, please.

I get the feeling Kassian is going to go one of two ways: Milan Lucic or Pat Kavanagh.

I don’t think he has Lucic’s raw skill, but, man, is he a menace on the ice. Watch that prospect interview, mf, he’s a really interesting kid.

As would I, but he’s not leaving ATL. It’s like my love of Alexander Semin – he ain’t coming to the Leafs, so I’ll have to watch him afar.

Clowe also re-upped, I think he had been discussed of someone of interest.. I think it was a day or two ago, didn’t see it fanshottered
by LeafFanInVan on Jul 3, 2009 7:54 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
yeah
but that was more of wanting to trade for him. He put the Sharks right at the cap, and they need to sign a number of players. So there’s still some (faint) hope.

it didn’t really seem like a sign-n-trade, but who knows. I bet they’d be more likely to try to move one of the big guns of marleau or thornton if possible.. Thornton yes, although I dunno if wilson likes him..
by LeafFanInVan on Jul 3, 2009 7:58 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
I don’t know if Wilson likes any of their big guns (I’m still hoping we get Cheechoo though)

Do you think Cheechoo can re-gain his form? A $3M cap hit is a lot to carry for a guy who’s NHL goal production is almost a perfect bell curve: 9, 28, 56, 37, 23, 12.
Smells a bit too much like Mark Bell to me.

Pavelski and Cheech (the former more so than the latter) are the two i’d target if the Sharks are in dump mode.
or Michalek, but I don’t think he’s going anywhere…

I’d love Pavelski on the Leafs – he was a huge part of SJ’s PK and Mirtle named him one of the top defensive forwards in the game.
But there’s no way he can be considered a salary dump. His $1.6M cap hit is one of their better value contracts.
I can’t see Pavelski being traded as it just doesn’t move the needle on their cap situation.

Pavelski and Michalek
for Tlusty and a bag of pucks should give them about $4M or so in cap space back…
bags of pucks are hard to come by.

I don't think
he’ll ever be a 50 goal scorer again, but I don’t see why he can’t get back up to 20-30. He was used on the third line all season last year, I don’t know if he even got PP time. But he is a heart and soul player who brings intangibles. He was also one of the few Sharks to score multiple times in the playoffs.

I don’t mean to be a grump, but I think $3M is too much to pay for a guy that might hit 20+ goals – especially since the Leafs will have to trade someting to San Jose to get him.

I love him and would love to see him at least 2 years as a Leaf, to see if the Blue and White brings his best back, but he needs to be on a highly skilled line or we’d be wasting him.
Also, there’s some question about his health- knees I think?

There was something posted on,I believe TSN a couple days ago about a 3 way deal between the Leafs..Sharks..and Hawks.Never saw or heard anything else about it,but it had me looking at the rosters to see what might be enticing….I won’t put anything out there as even an alledged rumor, but we all can dream. Then comes word about Barker and Versteeg…hmmmm!!
