Sources also told Tedesco that George Gillett, the outgoing owner of the Montreal Canadiens, hammered Balsillie for telling a French-language newspaper in November of last year that the Canadiens were for sale, claiming that Balsillie's comments destabilized the franchise and directly contributed to Montreal's failure in the playoffs.

And another thing
I love how pathetic this franchise is that they blame a person not even in the NHL for their playoff failures. You know who else is to blame? Hitler, that’s who.

Seriously?
A Toronto Maple Leafs fan calling another team a “pathetic franchise”?
Dude.. c’mon.

while the Cup history of the Canadiens might not be pathetic (although your Stanley Cup is old enough to drive) blaming some guy who’s not on the ice nor in the NHL for your playoff failures, burning the city after a playoff loss, considering Celine Dion as an owner, having the Lollipop Guild (Gionta, Gomez, Cammalleri) as your go-to guys, treating your former captain like garbage, having Carey Price as your goalie, and crying when the Kostitsyn brothers got destroyed by Grabbo certainly is.

See now, this completely goes against what the Charleston Chiefs did in Slapshot. Reg made up the lie that they were being sold, and those bastards played their guts out all the way to a championship.
For not following such a pillar of hockey, I say “Shame on you Montreal. Shame on you.”

seriously...
hasn’t he seen Major League? They shoulda won the whole damn thing, then.
This is approimately 1000 times funnier if you imagine Charlie Sheen playing Carey Price.

If the motivational ploy was slowly uncovering a scantily clad George Gillett, I’m pretty sure I’d resort to cocaine too.

They have no excuse.
It’s not as if their Blog was affected, what would we do if the OTPP said they were going to sell the Leafs, what would happen to PPP?
OLAS would probably start screwing up, worried about where his worshippers would gather in the future; the Canucks would become unstoppable as Wellwood would no longer hear our mocking voices whenever he went to refill his plate at Tucker’s Marketplace, the low-grade roast beef translating into hundreds of assists; and Jason Blake’s fist pump would lose the magic our comments imbued it with, and would therefore no longer make our opponents tremble in fear.
THAT, is why only the Leafs could ever blame poor play on a sale, and why the habs, much like the sens, continue to be pathetic whiners both on and off the ice.

SBN actually asked me about the odds of that when I signed up and I said “Who sells a cash cow?”
If I am wrong though we’ll have to hope that the new owners’ names make for a catchy url.

Ha!
So the Habs’ crappy defensive play, goalie issues, player malaise and comical lack of size and toughness, not to mention shoddy coaching and GM work, were not the fault of the players or coaching & management staff, but it was an ill-advised comment by Balsillie that led to the Habs’ spectacular “centennial” season flameout?
Interesting!
Being a Leaf fan here requires one to be sufficiently lubricated... and truculent!
Well at least the Habs got bigger and tougher this summer.
