Minus the Smyth trade, it’s a good week to be an Avs fan.

> Tyler Arnason to the Rangers, guaranteeing a 300% increase in hits by whoever takes his place.
> Andrew Raycroft to Vancouver, guaranteeing that every Colorado-Vancouver game is a Colorado win next year. Hello bar bets by me.

And Kyle Quincey was at his cottage and missed the phone call about being traded until 24 hours later. Good times. Can we get rid of Darcy Tucker now? I know Colorado’s trying to tank, but you can at least do it with a semblance of dignity on your roster.

Wellwood + arbitration can only lead to good. I hope The Kyle Wellwood Experience doesn’t leave town. After a few beers and your barmates get sad about their Canucks, a Wellwood joke helps. He’s like Penner, but actually produces.

Smyth to LA is a bit of a wash, I guess.. Funny how that was almost Heatley going to LA, but then his true douche colours shone through in the Edmonton debacle.

by LeafFanInVan on Jul 7, 2009 12:50 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Hextall wasn’t a big fan of Heatley before the Edmonton debacle, and is even less of one now. Seeing what they gave up for Smyth, I doubt at all that Los Angeles wanted to move any real solid prospects, all apologies aside to Quincey. Heatley’s known in this household as His Doucheness, but there’s certainly bias here.

Well hey, if it didn’t work with Sundin and Wellwood, why not give Raycroft a chance? It’s not like they have a better goalie available to them anyway.

Avs signed UFA Craig Anderson out of Florida. He put up great numbers last year.

Considering Raycroft’s extensive experience seeing the net filled with goals, maybe Mike Gillis is going to try Raycroft on a line with the Sedins.

So might this be them getting ready to trade schneider? Kaberle for schneider? Dare to dream..

More likely a temporary backup who won’t get much work behind Luongo, and once schneider is ready for more starts will be cast aside like a smelly gym sock with a crap glove hand.

heh

I wonder if it’s a two way contract. That way if Schneider earns the back up role to start, before being traded out, Raycroft can go down to the AHL.

Oh who am I kidding, noone would pick him up on waivers.

True story-
My little brother works on an HVAC crew with Raycroft’s nephew. One day, when they were discussing the Leaf’s, this individual let my brother know about his uncle. My brother said, “Really? Can you get me an autograph?” The guy says, sure, I don’t know when I’ll see him next, but I’ll try.".
My brother replied, “Oh no, I meant can you get me Toskala’s autograph.” :)
The guy hasn’t talked to him since.

I’ve waited all day to respond to this most epic accouncement. I will not jinx it by hoping ill on Luongo until after the olympics, but if he pops a groin first canuck game back and raycroft has to carry them into the playoffs (or miss it, because it’s RAYCROFT, goalie equipment tester, puck scuffs ruin the mint condition!) all I know is it will be EPIC!!!

that’d be the best. Luongo leads Canada to gold, only to severly injure himself in the final game, so that the Canucks are forced to play Raycroft while they try to squeak into the playoffs…

Do we really want Luongo to start for Canada? Considering he’s never won an important game, ever, I’m tempted to go with a winner. His talent is not in question whatsoever, but his attitude is terrible.

His first playoff round was outstanding, given his team had no offence. He was good in the first round this year – St. Louis’ power play wasn’t. Round two not so much. I’m more comfortable with Luongo than Brodeur right now, and certainly more than Marc-Andre Heart Attack. Apparently you and I both live here and cheer for different not Vancouver teams, so maybe we’re biased. I don’t think I am.
