Perhaps one of the classiest guys playing the game is going to retire this week. Great run, Joe!

Taylor Hall will be an Avalanche.
Sad to see Sakic go. I was always a huge fan. Great guy, great player.

I hope not though the Avs have lost a bunch this off season.
I enjoyed this tidbit from Mile High Hockey
Hell, for the amount we’re paying Tucker, we could have kept Lappy, Guite AND Cody McCormick. Just sayin…by David Driscoll-Carignan on Jul 5, 2009 11:37 AM EDT
Ah Tucker’s cap hit screwing another team over.
Plus they traded Ryan Smyth.

One less guy that will be attending the Olympic Evaluation camp.

I think that is actually a good call, Savard can definitely do a good job for Team Canada.

Burnaby Joe!
I used to drive past “Joe Sakic Way” every day to work for a while there. Great guy, great leader, great Canadian. Gotta love those guys who spend their entire career with a single team too. Two cities, I suppose..
He was magic in salt lake in 2002 as well.

The NHL is losing a great player today. He may have been Quoteless Joe, but Sakic’s play on the ice spoke volumes.
His otherworldly performances in the Avs’ 2 Stanley Cup wins and in Salt Lake are the stuff of legend.

my second all time favourite non-Leaf, and coming second to Yzerman isnt anything to scoff at.
Truly the end of an era.

So I guess . . .
that snowblower really DID do him in. Damn shame, that.
Never have had a bad thing to say about Sakic, even as his team steamrolled mine in the WC Finals in ’01. Hell of a player and seemingly a good guy off the ice as well.

My brother said today that the Mark Messier “leadership” award should be renamed the Joe Sakic Award. I couldn’t agree with him more.
