That blog is retarded, I couldn’t help but question some of his statements in a comment. Like seriously, he cites the loss of Moore and Antropov as making the team made up of “3rd and 4th line playesr”… Moore is more of a 3rd liner than half of our forwards, and Nik leaving just makes more competition among the youngns.

If I had to guess, I’d say Stempni-suck doesn’t produce enough to get the icetime required for him to bag 20. But I agree the other 6 provide some pretty balanced scoring. Far from the worst in the league.

If he doesn’t play with two 20+ goal scorers again – which he probably won’t – then he wont put up 40 assists.

You are an opposing coach and you have to divide up your defenders to adequately defend against the Leafs best scorers. does having 7 goal scoring threats make it harder to do that?

I dunno

he was good with Blake last season and Blakey-boy was fairly inconsistent for a few stretches there. If they get paired up again and Blake plays consistently, I don’t see how he won’t rack up more goals and assists this season

also Stajan racked up decent numbers when he was paired up with Steener although Quinnster broke them up pretty quick except for the penalty kill

I might

I looked at the players with ice time from 16:45/game – 17:00/game (Stajan avg – 16:55).

The only players who averaged more points per game than Matty were:
Gionta
Recchi
Krecji
Lang

Those who didn’t include:
Higgins
Bouchard
Tkachuk
Cleary
Little
Modin
Burrows
Sundin
Moore
Zherdev
Cullen

Stajan

sucked with Blake. He didn’t produce alongside Blake and Tucker at all. Please don’t think he did.

When Stajan and Blake played on the same line, Stajan managed to produce a grand total of 2 points last year.

That is NOT good production.

thank you

if Stajan was so great with Blake, why were Moore and Mitchell playing with Blake this year?
Stajan had some good time between Antro and Poni, but I don’t think he’ll be there this year. He may start as the 2nd line center (though I’d rather see Mitchell there if that’s what we’re doing) but I feel Bozak will finish the season with the big boys.

"Life is just a place where we spend time between games. Hockey is where we live, where we can best meet and overcome pain and wrong and death." - Fred Shero

by Karina on Aug 18, 2009 12:28 PM EDT up reply actions

Stajan was entirely dependent

upon Antropov and Ponikarovsky for most of his production last year. He played well with Devereaux and Hamilton at the end of the season, and Steen and Sundin in the past, but 5 of the 6 players I just mentioned no longer play on the team.

If he should strike it off well with some of the newer Leafs he might survive the general purge Burke is undertaking. If he doesn’t, kiss his ass goodbye as a top 6 forward.

Ponikarovsky and Blake both produced better with Grabovski and Mitchell respectively. There is no reason to retain Stajan as a top 6 forward considering their play last season, and the inclusion of Tlusty and Bozak this year.

Poni

is not a 3rd liner. He’s a 1st liner. He played the 3rd most ES minutes of any Leafs forwards last season, after Blake and Hagman.

Of the remaining Leafs forwards he had the 3rd most PP time last season after Blake and Stajan.

Overall he had the 2nd most ice time of all Leaf forwards last year behind Blake.

On a per-game basis he wasn’t top 3, but considering totals for the season, that explains his production.

I hear he changed his name to Hagman because it used to be Manman and just seeing that on the sweater made opponents’ testicles shrivel up and fall off. The NHL weren’t happy about the cleaning bill.

Also, it was pronounced “MAYONNMAYONN” like in the song by Matt Stone and Trey Parker. Therefore “HAYGMAYONN” is the correct pronunciation.

Can it before I drive this truculence through your faceulence and put you in an ambulance.

Great poll

Blurr, props on the poll. Anyone who doesn’t have anything nice to say about Hagman should just keep their mouth shut.

I want what the Hagman and Ponikarovsky haters are smoking. Because that shit is clearly good.

Nik has a hot wife

Hagman is the prototypical ‘middle’ six forward. He can play 2nd line and score a ton or play 3rd line minutes and score and check. I swear, the hockey writers in this town have totally forgot he is even on the team. The think Primeau and Orr will be on the top line..

House Cleaning in San Jose

Marleau stripped of captaincy and all alternate captaincy postions are vacant.

yeah

I saw that yesterday… but how is that house cleaning? It’s just leadership vacancy at this point.

but

it doesn’t change anything.
He took his captain who has a fragile ego and shamed him publicly.
Honestly, I think Marleau’s done in San Jose. I don’t know if it’s that he should never have been given the captaincy (which was done at the suggestion of Alyn McCauley) or what, but I don’t know how he can continue to play for an organization that he has so much negative history with.

Okay, Hagman’s moves and finish are beyond awesome, but that goal against Florida might be the best shift any Leafs forward line played last year. Tremendous puck control.
