That, my friend, is what she said.

This blog will be called Pension Plan Puppets for a very long time.
He Score, He Shoot! Number To Be Retired After Illustrious Career
Phew
I had a chance to change the name when I joined and I promised Blez that the OTPP would NEVER sell the team.

What were the other options?

MLSE Board Puppet?
Bitter Leaf Fan: a life-long Toronto Maple Leafs fan comments on the team, the media and the exasperation...
I would have had to come up with those options. Plays on Leafs and Buds that were nowhere near as good as this one.
Down Goes Hextall almost made it but I decided to stick with PPP

Does this mean OLAS is actually working for the Dark Side?
A Nation of Masochists I can't believe "Stay Truculent!!!1" replaced goodbye.
Don’t worry, Pope Burke and OLAS will exorcise the non-believers. They will cleanse MLSE as if it were Sodom and Gomorrah.
Or maybe in a year or two Schenn and Kadri bust into the boardroom Affleck/Damon Dogma-style. As I recall things ended well in that movie.

There was a time
when we used to see lots of articles in the Toronto media that attributed the lack of organizational direction to the large number of investors that held shares in MLSE; too many investors wanted a say in how the team was to be managed. As it turns out, we found solid leadership (i.e. Burke & Co.) before we got rid of Tanenbaum and the rest of the peanut gallery anyway.
I definitely remember Cox articles along that line

I’m going to harass anyone who isn’t a Leafs fan at teacher’s college by telling them that their fan-dom for another team represents a conflict of interest.

Where/when are you going to teacher’s college?

I’m going to Queen’s in Sept.
A Nation of Masochists I can't believe "Stay Truculent!!!1" replaced goodbye.
I applied/was accepted there, was debating going because the of potential to do one of the practicums abroad, but ultimately London was the cheaper option, and I’m familiar with the area.

I missed the dealines for all the schools except Queen’s so I only applied there. My sister and cousin both went there for their undergrads so I have some idea of the school.

Those weren’t Queen’s students and over 90% of tickets and arrests on homecoming weekend were the result of POS that had no relation to the school.
Leave it to the small-town politics and hick residents to ignore the $2bn a year is pumped into their shitty town so that they can get their pound of flesh.

Have you ever read the Letters to the Editor about old people complaining about all the Western/Fanshawe students in the Lfpress?
The Fanshawe children deserve it as they make Flyers’ Fans seem literate.

No
But I know that people that move into the clearly defined Queen’s ghetto shouldn’t be complaining that there is noise at 3am on a random Wednesday.
Pension Plan Puppets: A Toronto Maple Leafs blog and a group therapy session.
No, no they should not.
London has gone so far as to set-up a special task force to deal with noise.
There was even a noise-by-law passed that would prohibit noise about a certain level past 10pm. If i recall correctly the level was something akin to a car-horn, and there may have been something about no whistling……Fleet, help me out here…

every year rock the park gets fined for that, because people are suddenly surprised that there is a massive concert that happens every year and is publicized for the rest of the year

Apparently the noise by-law doesn’t cover motorcycles modified to make it sound like the world is ending. I hate that.

Students in London
The Good – they spend a huge amount of money, their tuition subsidizes London Transit and in spite how much people whine our bus service is much better than it would be, having a large medical school means London probably has better medical facilities and more doctors, cool people like dpatrickgray and Fleet Fox move here, Michael Ondaatje wrote The Collected Works Of Billy The Kid while teaching at Western
The Bad – the beautiful old houses downtown converted to student rentals or frat/sorority houses and then not kept up, large groups of drunk people in bar areas are always a bad thing, many students appear never to have learned how to drink, homecoming sucks, only Rick Rude should be allowed to say WOOOOOO!

I thought Tanenbaum was the only owner who cared about the hockey side (more than the business side)?
by Its Cold In Here on Aug 20, 2009 3:42 PM EDT up reply actions
Tanenbaum and Peddie
both have a seat on the board – and Peddie is in the corner of the teachers normally.
Basically at this point the board is controlled by the teachers – they’ve got roughly 6 of the votes already… if they get another that’s 7.
They can keep tanenbaum under wraps at this point if they want.

So basically
this means I own 66.6% of the Leafs now. All that’s left is for me to climb the ranks of the pension plan up to the board level – then I will take over everything. Unfortunately most of the pension management types are hired from outside the teachers ranks.
If anyone can come up with a way for me to make it to the top in the next 10 years keep me updated.

Oh and if anyone wants to know who the board members are for MLSE
I found a listing of them at one point… I’ll have to see what I did with it.

Praise be to wikipedia
Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment Ltd. Board of Directors:
* Larry Tanenbaum – Kilmer Sports (non-executive chairman of the board)
* Richard Peddie – MLSE (president and CEO)
* Robert Bertram – Senior Advisor, Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan
* Dean Metcalf – Teachers’ Private Capital
* Erol Uzumeri – Teachers’ Private Capital
* Glen Silvestri – Teachers’ Private Capital
* Ivan Fecan – CTVglobemedia
* Robert MacLellan – TD Capital Group
* Dale Lastman – Goodmans LLP
I guess that means Fecan is gone – so… is there another seat at the table for the pension now?

New ownership structure:
OTPP @ 65.5%
Tannenbaum @ 20.5%
TD Bank @ 14%
CTV had one seat on the board (Ivan Fecan). I wonder if the OTPP will move to five seats with his departure or if the organization will bring in another big hitter like, gulp, Dale Lastman.

or did you mean another one LIKE him? as in similar to?

Yup, as in similar to.
MLSE also has an official board page up at their web-site.
As for your ownership, with 284,000 teachers in Ontario (active and retired) your personal portion of the OTPP stake is 0.000232. With 65.55 ownership of the Leafs, your stake represents 0.000003 of our favourite team. Not bad.

To be fair
I’m glad they’re investing in things that make a lot of money. It ensures that I’ll have money to live off of when I retire.

I was listening To a Montreal Sports Radio Station Yesterday
Paraphrasing
Host: People are really starting to get anxious for hockey again
Co-Host: Yah, yesterday I saw this kid carrying a hockey back into a minivan. Hockey is winding up soon.
Host: You sure that it was a kid and not Brian Gionta?

Less Leafs on the tube?
Since CTV/GlobeMedia owns TSN would that mean more Leafs bashing and less games on TSN?
