BREAKING Coyotes BK: Reinsdorf Group statement blames "unwilling seller" chilling negotiations. Says it could not reach lease deal w/G'dale.
Courtesy of Brahm Resnik. Not really a surprise. MC79Hockey literally just tweeted that this was likely to happen.
This is definitely a way for the NHL to not only control the fate of the Coyotes by taking power away from Judge Baum but it allows for more pressure to be applied to Glendale.
Here is the Reinsdorf Group's statement on the hold-up. Predictably it centres around the lease.

so
bidders are Balsille and the League?
Has anyone heard how much the League’s bid is for?

one shiny penny more than Balsille’s
Brain: The irony of it all, Pinky. Years of trying to take over the world, and all I had to do was say "truculence".

This saga keeps getting weirder and stranger and more complex, etc. etc.
Nobody looks good in this whole process. NObody. I wouldn’t trust any of ’em to run a lemonade stand, much less a professional hockey franchise/league.
Being a Leaf fan here requires one to be sufficiently lubricated... and truculent!
That’s what I’ve been saying is going to happen from the start of this. The NHL could have saved itself the PR nightmare by allowing Balsillie’s bid…. but now everyone is going to be dragged through the mud and the NHL as a whole will be worse for it.

What happens if Balsillies bid wins?
Then we’ll have the same situation with the Sabres and Ottawa (less TV revenues)

Would you stop watching the Leafs or going to games if there was a team in Hamilton?
The Sabres might hurt, but I doubt they sell many tickets to people that far west.

20% of their revenue comes from southern Ontario according to Tom Golisano.
I’d buy tickets for sure just for the Leafs’ games.
Pension Plan Puppets: A Toronto Maple Leafs blog and a group therapy session.
What qualifies as southern ontario? And I wonder how much of “southern ontario” is the niagara region (as far as Sabres revenue is concerned?)

Ticket sales isn’t the main determinant for a viable team. It’s corporate support & tv revenue that helps prop teams up. That’s why Winnipeg & Quebec city lost teams both had loyal fanbases, but each lacked corporate support. Buffalo is hanging on by a thread their owners can’t afford to have yet another rival team that close.
