It’s time for a competitive seniors league for players over the age of 35.
Currently tracking outbreaks of Hogtown Flu, specifically the LS02 strain.
he’d even be too slow for the GHL (Geriatrics…). Only thing slower than Allison on skates, is Mats making a decision

Whaaaat?
Of course I get into work and my work e-mail is filled with friends asking if they slept through to April 1st.

Jesus, can he at least wait until my cable box can fast forward through unwatched programming?

Always remember this about Jason Allison: in his year with the Leafs, he had a huge bonus due in his contract for playing 70 games and he fell just short because he broke his hand jumping into a fight to help a teammate. He never played in the NHL again. The Leafs owe him at least a tryout.
Of course, if he makes the team, they have to shoot him.

nothing wrong with giving him a shot. i just don’t see this ending well, either for Allison (if he doesn’t make it) or the Leafs (if he does).

eh
I dunno. We’re not winning the cup this year, maybe it gives some rookies time to gel in the AHL and come up and play even better next year.
GAH I can’t believe I just tried to find a positive in this.

Wasn't
he already the top 6 forward we never wanted like 3 years ago?
I'm not even supposed to be here today..!
Hold on...
60 points in 66 games in 05/06.
Those are numbers you can’t ignore, not matter how slow he skated or the fact he was a -18.
He claims to be in top shape, and unless he’s a complete fool one would think he’s worked on his foot speed over the last few seasons…
All I’m saying is that stranger things have happened.
Plus I really liked him on the PP. God it would be nice to have a scary PP again…
All that said...
He won’t make the team…
60 games in 5 years . No thank you.
A Nation of Masochists I can't believe "Stay Truculent!!!1" replaced goodbye.
60 games almost 7 years, he didnt play most of the 03 season and missed the entire 04 season., plus the lockout.

83 games in 7 years. Hey that’s more than a season!
A Nation of Masochists I can't believe "Stay Truculent!!!1" replaced goodbye.
I think this is purely
a matter of Allison wanting a tryout so that he can display to the entire NHL that he is in game shape. He likely thinks, and he’s probably right, that some team with cap issues that wants some scoring punch (hello NY rangers) might want to sign a guy who can put the puck in the net for cheap.
He’ll help a lot of teams in that regard – just not the Maple Leafs.

I'm pretty sure he's talking about the Leafs.
oh please
can this be like last year when the wings gave Brent Sopel a tryout and then he signed with Chicago?
We will give Allison a tryout, and then he’ll be signed by Ottawa.
Yessssssssssss…

I never really understood why everyone used to bash him so much the last time he played. All he did was put up points and seemed to be a good teammate. That being said, I am against his signing with the Leafs for the same reason I didn’t mind seeing Mats go last season. Right now it is about letting the kids get ice time and seeing who develops. Every minute Allison would spend on the ice would be a minute a younger Leaf would have to sit.
Is it October yet?
I think it was because he was feasting on the PP while killing the team at ES plus his pathetic shootout attempts.
Pension Plan Puppets: A Toronto Maple Leafs blog and a group therapy session.
yep
he was pretty good on the PP because he always had good hands and could make pretty nice plays but 5 on 5 he was like a cow on skates pulling a boulder.

But it does give the Leafs some time to let Bozak work in the AHL.
hmmmm….nope, still not a fan.
Pension Plan Puppets: A Toronto Maple Leafs blog and a group therapy session.
It's an idiotic move to actually sign him
Bringing him into camp for the Leafs kids to get a feel for playing against REAL NHL competition isn’t a bad plan though.
It’ll let Luke Schenn feel good about his positioning since it’ll give him an extra 5 minutes to move to the right spot before Allison sets up his plays.

Someone on Leafs Lunch just suggested he would be a good set up man for Stempniak!! Surprised he didn’t finish w Go Flyers!!
Seriously if he doesn’t crack the team perhaps he is angling for some type of coaching/head office job?

Burkie does seem to like to have one old fucker on his team – Brad MAy, Bertuzzi….. Jason Allison could be our Reggie Dunlop….. with a much more awesome beard.
In fact Jason should let the beard grow real long like Bill Flett.

Yes, but we already HAVE one old fucker. That being said, Allison has more of an upside than Primeau Jr. any day.

Do you remember Allison at the World Juniors? He had a Stanley Cup Final quality beard and he was 19!
Pension Plan Puppets: A Toronto Maple Leafs blog and a group therapy session.
At least Stempniak
can actually skate reasonably well.
I don’t see how Allison fits in with Ron Wilson’s concepts of a forecheck – but hey he did run a team built around Joe Thornton with a lot of other fast guys to put the puck in the nets.
I wonder if this is an indication that the Leafs don’t think Grabovski can handle being the number 1 guy for a whole season… insurance plan etc.

Any attempt for me to conjur up a reality where Allison has NHL foot speed results in an image of Oprah catching Usain Bolt in the 100m.

Is it just me, or does it seem that there’s a surfeit of old guys wanting to “come out of retirement” and take a crack at the Leafs? Do they sense a sea-change with the team having Burkie and Wilson et al on board?

On wikipedia
it says that his reputation of being a slow skater was created when he purposely skated slow on a shootout attempt.

What the fuck, is he a bear?
Evident from his grizzly beard, his slow, plodding movements, and the fact that he’s asleep during the winter, it is clear that Jason Allison is indeed a bear.

I don’t have any problem with this. I’m no Allison fan (do those even exist?) but there is no risk in giving him the chance. If he makes the team he will most likely get paid very little and the Leafs will likely need all the help on offense they can get.
Go Leafs and Bruins!

I used to be an Allison Fan. Then he came to the Leafs.
Something similar happened with Owen Nolan.
