Mayor Larry O’Brien. Not guilty.
Being a Leaf fan here requires one to be sufficiently lubricated... and truculent!
Really? Huh. I figured he’d be found guilty.
I'd rather be insufferable and them have nothing - Karina
Sounds like the judge found Terry Kilrea’s testimony unreliable. His testimony was the key to the whole case, when it went down nothing else much mattered.
It appears from what I’ve read the only thing O’Brien was guilty of was being naive. Meeting a mayoral rival in a very public place to talk about the election very easily gave the appearance that something shady was going on. O’Brien was an outsider to the political process before being mayor, so his naivete is not surprising in a way, but a smart guy like him, you’d still think he’d know better.
Being a Leaf fan here requires one to be sufficiently lubricated... and truculent!
I dunno. I’ve never been in politics, but I’d know better than to do what he did.

Here’s a clear explanation
A Nation of Masochists The waiting is the hardest part but the truculence helps.
Move to Ottawa?
As someone who’s had numerous friends live there and move out fast as lightning I’d suggest not making a mistake and moving TO ottawa.
Pension Plan Puppets: A Toronto Maple Leafs blog and a group therapy session.
I’m trying to convince him not to go but his brother has a gov’t job there so that’s part of the reason.
A Nation of Masochists The waiting is the hardest part but the truculence helps.
Unless his brother has great connections, good luck on him getting in there. I applied for a position and jumped through a million hoops just to get on the list of approved candidates to be hired when an opening was created. That was about 9 months ago… haven’t heard from them since.
Being a Leaf fan here requires one to be sufficiently lubricated... and truculent!
He assumes his brother can get him a job but I don’t think he realizes just how many people work in gov’t in Ottawa. They all can try and hook up their friends and family but it’s not going to work for everyone.
His job in Toronto does suck but really for what he’s looking for (basic admin work) it’s not that hard to find employment here.
A Nation of Masochists The waiting is the hardest part but the truculence helps.
Yeah, knowing that I’d tell him to stay put. I’m sure he could find that kind of work here, but it’s probably more plentiful in Toronto, so why go through the hassle of moving?
Being a Leaf fan here requires one to be sufficiently lubricated... and truculent!
I’m going to try but if his brother is trying to convince him to move to Ottawa he’ll listen to his brother over me despite being one of his closest friends.
A Nation of Masochists The waiting is the hardest part but the truculence helps.
Oh God
This sounds like when my good (dummy) friend moved to Calgary because his dad’s idiot financial planner told him that he could be making 200K in no time because of the oil boom. No surprise, he’s making less than he was in Toronto and is miserable because all of his high school friends live in Vancouver and all of his university friends live in Toronto.
So despite us sending him salary information and tonnes of stuff daily he did it anyway. All you can do is call him repeatedly when you and your friends are having a great time until he regrets the move so much that he comes back. We’re still working on this part.
Pension Plan Puppets: A Toronto Maple Leafs blog and a group therapy session.
Good idea. All his friends are in Toronto.
A Nation of Masochists The waiting is the hardest part but the truculence helps.
I was looking at applying in Alberta when all my prospects here were drying up, didn’t wanna do it but had no choice… very happy I didn’t because the whole oil and gas engineering industry in Alberta is crashing and burning faster than the Hindenberg

Well the Jays won their first World Series in their 16th year of existence so they have now gone through half their existence without winning a Cup (HEY just like the Leafs).

Hey Steve
How do you deal with questions without hands up?

Oh
I just ignore the kids who are saying crap that’s irrelevant.

Ok
I’m here then…
"Success is the ability to go from one failure to another with no loss of enthusiasm."
- Sir Winston Churchill
I'm pretty sure he's talking about the Leafs.
Think of it this way
They teach us that lecturing is wrong… like you can’t sit there and have kids be inactive and unengaged with your material.
So I just ask a lot of leading questions, which in reality are rhetorical… but I give them a chance to respond, and use them to continue the lesson along the progression I want it to take.
I wouldn’t do that in front of an administrator though.

How many kids are in your class?
I went to prep school and in my math classes we didn’t raise hands because there was the teacher and four of us.

Gotcha
Umm it varies. In summer or night school classes you can have around 40 at a time. In day school the legal max is 28. I’m teaching at an alternative school next year and the class sizes will be larger, but it’ll be a bit different in other regards.
"Success is the ability to go from one failure to another with no loss of enthusiasm."

Yeah 1 teacher and 4 kids
Is a bit unheard of in the public system.
That’s equivalent to like Credit Recovery classes… which is where we stick kids who can’t finish courses like a normal human being.

That way is a good way to teach.
The funny thing is that my sister goes to Columbia and complains that a lot of teachers try to teach that way but don’t know how to do it.

It also depends on what you're teaching
I mean if it’s something with right and wrong answers… i.e. Math… then you can get away with it far more easily than if you’re teaching a social science or english.

Not a bad plan
If you’re single they’re hiring overseas a lot. A friend of mine left at the end of July to teach on a 2 year contract in Egypt. He said they were hiring for places like Belgium and Switzerland also.
England hires a lot of Canucks, but they tend to place you in the crappiest schools so be careful with that one.
