From the middling state of Wisconsin:
Josh Engel, a defenseman from Rice Lake who played 100 career games for the Badgers from 2004 to ‘08, has been offered a pro contract with Toronto.
Well, Josh Engel, formerly of the Gwinnett Gladiators of the ECHL, was originally signed to a professional tryout last season before putting pen to paper on a full contract. I'd link to his profile page on the Toronto Marlies website but MLSE went the cheap route and it's impossible to link directly to a player's page. For now, take my word on the fact that he went 1-4-5 in 28 regular season games along with a +8 rating before adding one assist and a +2 rating in 3 playoff games. Here's his HockeyDB page for what it's worth.
Also, he's great at ping pong.
This is definitely a move aimed at filling out the defence corps on the Marlies so it's no surprise that it's gone ignored by the local rags. Here he is getting introduced at an ECHL game. Enjoy!
