Kessel Not a Leaf, Heatley Not a Shark...Incoherent Friday
- Down Goes Brown channels his inner Eklund to show the kids how this "prediction" thing is done. Or maybe, it was Miss Cleo...
- TSM has the audio from a MacLean vs. McCown verbal showdown. It's a must see!
- Getting to know you, getting to know all about PPP.
- Alex Tran weighs in on the Kessel situation at MLHS. It's heavy.
- Hockey Bums with two posts on the Kessel situation, as not all may be as it appears while the man they call "Phil" has denied talks are "off" with the "Bruins."
- The Sporting News takes a long look at the Leafs and decides it's more of the same.

Stajan has a cap hit of 1.75, Dubinsky could probably be signed somewhere around here $1,307,811 – $2,615,623 which is a 2nd round pick compensation.

he will sign for closer to 2.5 probably higher, or else the rangers would have inked him already

if it was just a second round pick, im sure someone would have signed him for that already, there are many teams in need of a Dubisky type player that would drop a 2nd rounder

well yes, but unless Burke has moves lined up to ship out some of the 3rd and 2nd line talent.
no point in offering up a pick for a player until he is needed.
Just say Burke trades for Kessel and Stajan and Stempniak go (or whatever) and the Leafs have an opening for a tweener then sure

I thought one of the objectives of FTB was to post all Wellwood fat jokes. You missed this one by Puck Daddy :
It’s time to stop wondering what the hell happened to the former 56-goal flash-in-the-pan and start accepting reality. At this point, it’s clear that he couldn’t hit the broad side of Kyle Wellwood’s gut.
Cheechoo was the best sleeper pick ever that year.
Before he teamed up with Thornton I was offering damned near anything to get rid of him, one month later I was getting offers that would make Glen Sather go “what the fuck”

So true of many industries.
Ray Robertson wrote a great essay in the Globe a decade ago about this vicious-cycle in the Canadian publishing industry. It’s such a small pond that nobody wants to pan a book for fear of reprisals (bad reviews, refused grant applications, etc.). In the end, mediocrity gets a passing grade.
The journalists I know talk smack about each other all the time, but in public? It’s all smiles and quid pro quo

Even when a journalist trashes another in print (like Cox v Dowbiggin), they don’t name names. It’s just vague references to “other publications” and that sort of thing.

A more telling comment from PPP's interview
If you could move any uprooted team (e.g. Quebec Nordiques, Hartford Whalers, etc.) back to their original home, which one would you move?
All of them so that their fans would shut the hell up.
This tells us either that A) Chemmy whines about the Whalers all the time, or B) PPP wants the Whalers back to force Chemmy to choose between his first love and his current one.
Wait, Chemmy used to be a Whalers fan?

I just want the Nords back because it would be hilarious to see the Sens and Habs lose a third of their fan bases

Funny thing is, it isn’t that far fetched.
Although, it could easily be Stajan for Dubinsky and the 2nd rounder to Boston as well

yeah, either way the Leafs coming out with Kessel and Dubinsky while looseing the three picks and Stajan is possible, if not likely

the only way this makes any sense at all is if Kessel thinks he is worth north of the 1,2,3 offer sheet and it would cost burke 4 1st rounders or whatever for a sheet and burke Reeeeeeeeeeeally wants Kessel

One way or another, I’m looking at a Lucic-Savard-Ryder top line to start the season. Now all we have to do is tell Ryder it’s the playoffs every game and we’re playing the Habs.

He did add about 15 lbs of muscle, maybe. Ryder and Krejci were a damn good pair last year. I think training camp will determine depth.
Lucic-Savard-Wheeler could be a huge line. If wheeler would actually hit anyone, it would be a ridiculous forecheck.
haha, kessel is still listed as a center.

Really late to the party, but I wrote about Kessel in less than optimistic tones. So, if you’re intent on seeing Kessel in blue and white, well, ignore the middle half of my post.
