On top of so much else it depends on whether Kessel comes and what goes out for him.

So…what if nine of these guys look good enough to crack the top 6?

The forwards with waiver exemptions (Hanson, Bozak, Stalberg) will likely start with the Marlies.

Figured it out

I think…Van Ryn ended the year on IR so he’s not a ‘current’ player hence the lack of player page.

The only clear cut place is in net:

Leafs: Toskala, Gustavsson
Marlies: MacDonald, Reimer
Royals: Erickson, Engelage

Agreed. Was thinking about doing an article on Leafs goaltending, but it seems a little too redundant.

by Leafies on Sep 11, 2009 8:02 PM EDT up reply actions

Hey PPP, just an FYI the formatting on the mobile view is brutal…

Can’t wait for everything to unfold. Seems like we’ve got a few kids who are gonna make decisions tough on Burke and Wilson.

I don’t think the waiver issue is going to matter if the kid can play. Burke has already said that he has no problem burying salary in the minors and I’m inclined to believe him.

Waivers

If they show that they are good enough then they’ll be up just like Schenn was last year.

But I think Burke could use it as a way to give the kids some serious minutes with the Marlies while he tries to move players. Then again, the guys that would get moved can’t be worth much.

He’s a tough hombre, but I fear he’s too one-dimensional to break the top-6 of the Leafs. Same thing with Frogren. Both players should make it over XLB, but he’s not going to be benched as a Burke acquisition.

I like him as the kind of guy who’ll probably never nail down a full-time NHL job, but who’s capable of playing 20-odd games a year as an injury call-up. He’s got good size, a good work ethic and he’ll never embarrass himself.

Wouldn’t it be Ron Wilson’s job to make camp cuts and not Burke?

Probably in some places

But I’m pretty sure Burke and Wilson talk about pretty much every decision together. They’re like BFF’s.

The Globe and Sun are reporting the Leafs are down to 34 players in camp with Deveaux, Ondrus, Hamiltion and Foster having to clear waivers before they join the Marlies.

Meanwhile, Leaf fans everywhere are on the edge of their seats wondering about the fate of Tim Brent.

Ian White's a poor man's Gary Roberts

He’s tough, he works hard, he’s a character guy and he’s got great hands to boot. He’s a middle 6 forward for sure. If he was 4 inches taller, he’d be C-worthy.

He’s going to end up the captain of the new Hamilton Fincups and bite us on the ass eight times a year.

22 Forwards Left in Camp

Brent, Devane, Rosehill and Kurtz, they’ll all go down to the Marlies in the next round of cuts. Kadri likely goes back to London.. that leaves 17 forwards. Wilson says he’s starting with 13 forwards, so that leaves 4 more forwards to be cut.

Who is still on the outside? Discuss.

(Right now, I think it’s Allison, Stalberg, Tlusty and the fourth is one of Hanson/Mitchell/Mayers)

Sorry, here’s the quote from Wilson on Mayers:

“Jamal doesn’t need to prove anything,” Wilson said. “We want to build a really good grind line and he’s capable of doing that and killing penalties. He’s in great shape and works hard in practice. You can’t ever have enough of those guys.”

Poni, Stajan, Blake, Grabovski, Hagman, Kulemin, Mitchell, Wallin, Stempniak, Primeau, Mayers, Orr and (cough, cough) Allison.
