Possible 3 team deal for Kessel: Leafs - Rangers - Boston
From Eliotte Friedman's Twitter feed
Interesting: Boston Globe pushes idea of Kessel/Dubinsky/Toronto/Boston/Rangers 3-way
Boston Globe is here:
With Burke willing to surrender his pair of first-round picks, he conceivably could flip one of those picks and possibly a prospect to the Rangers for Dubinsky, who last year connected for 13 goals and 41 points for the highly-mediocre Blueshirts. Burke then could turn around and offer Chiarelli the first-rounder and Dubinsky, the 60th pick overall in the 2004 draft, for Kessel.

Kessel, who scored 36 goals last season, is now believed to be looking for better than $5 million a year on a long-term pact
Yikes. That’s a lotta dough.
And why trade a first for Dubinsky? Burke has leverage here too!

Why trade a first for Dubinsky when you can trade Jeff Finger’s inflated Contract. Everyone knows Glen Sather loves over-inflated contracts (See: Wade Redden, Chris Drury, Marian Gaborik, everyone on the Rangers not named Henrik Lundqvist)

Kessel-Schmessel.
I want to see what the kids can do. Let’s develope what we’ve got before we address what we need.
I don’t want to give up any 1st round picks. End of story. Full stop. Not for anything.
I would love for us to be in the playoffs but I have no expectation of a Cup run this year. We are still a long way off. If we can make the playoffs ten years in a row, that gives us as good a shot at winning the Cup as anyone else. What I don’t want is to make the playoffs a couple of times, come close once, and then miss the playoffs again 4 years in a row.
Champions take the long road. No short cuts.

The more I watch preseason games, the more my interest in Kessel wanes. I like the bunch we have here.
Much as I loved the Flyers & Bruins games some extra punch would be nice for when we’re not shooting on the likes of Dany Sabourin and Brian Boucher.

Ian White for Dubinsky, striaght up.
Then trade Dubinsky & a first for Kessel.
rangers need depth on D, we need to clear somebody on the back-end, Dubinsky is NOT worth a first-rond pick. Easy-peasy.

If we do something like that, I would expect a trade before the next draft that nets us a first-rounder back, preferably a much higher one than we’ll end up with. I’m tired of even the idea of giving other teams our shots at the future. If other GM’s don’t want to pay fair market for our players, screw them. We’re the Leafs.

I already hate Phil Kessel. Two months ago I was merely indifferent to Phil Kessel. Besides, why do we need help on RW when we have St. Empniak the Patron Saint of Invisibility re-emerging from behind his invisibility cloak.

Whoa, whoa.
Let’s put the brakes on a minute. Ron Wilson says Stempniak is having a good start to camp, he gets a goal, and all of a sudden, he’s St. Empniak? I like the nickname, and if he plays well for the rest of the season, I say keep it, but I think we could still use a guy like Kessel on the RW. I don’t think we should trade away two first rounders for him, but Stempniak’s going to have the comeback of the century (all 9 years of it) if he scores 36 goals next year.
wooooooooo
Darren Dreger says the trade is just waiting for final sign-off.
