The Rangers' Sean Avery won a settlement in his libel case against Toronto radio reporter Howard Berger following mediation earlier this month, Slap Shots has learned. The suit was brought in the aftermath of the pregame incident in Toronto on Nov. 10, 2007, after which Berger alleged that Avery had made comments to Jason Blake relating to the Leaf winger's previously diagnosed cancer. Terms of the settlement are confidential. Avery has at least one more pending suit relating to the incident.

While I’m not the biggest Avery fan, at least he is supposed to be a douche, its part of his job, and berger is just a moron, so this is high comedy

I’m waiting to hear what limo drivers have to say before I weigh in…I also think the second civil suit will be resolved in November.

Berger vs. Avery is like Hitler vs. Bin Laden.
Is that libel?

If this gets Berger fired, I will never again slag Avery for being a douche.

I will send him a rather large gift.
I expect, so will Wilson.

It’s a shame we’ll never find out whether Berger just made the entire thing up himself or if it was a Ranger or Leaf that told him that.
If I personally was in that situation I’d out the person but I am not surprised that Berger hasn’t come out and explained things. He could lose his precious access.

That’s one way of looking at it. The other is that this could be proof he did make the entire thing up himself.

It was a Ranger, at least according to Berger.
Even though I think Berger stretches the truth (OK, makes stuff up) when writing about his interactions with Leaf fans, there’s no way he made this up on his own. I’d be close to 100% sure that a Ranger really did tell him this. I’d love to know which one.

The absolute cherry on top would be Avery himself…………which would explain his strong hesitancy in “outing” anyone. I can just picture Avery disguising his voice with a Czech accent and saying, “Mr. Berger, this is the Jaromir Jagr calling………”
I can barely type for the laughing.
