"Jamal doesn't need to prove anything. We want to build a really good grind line and he's capable of doing that and killing penalties. He's in great shape and works hard in practice. You can't ever have enough of those guys."
Ron Wilson explains, for the 1000th time, that Jamal Mayers will be a Maple Leaf come October 1st.

I BELIEVE IN JAMAL MAYERS.
WHEN YOU THINK ABOUT JAMAL MAYERS, THINK ABOUT HOW HE STEPPED UP FOR MIKE VAN RYN LAST YEAR. WHEN MAYERS WAS SPECIFICALLY TOLD NOT TO FIGHT TO PROTECT HIS DAMAGED HAND, HE DID JUST THAT – FIGHT. THOSE ARE THE LENGTHS THAT HE WILL GO TO IN ORDER TO DEFEND THE HONOUR OF HIS TEAMMATES WHEN THEY’RE LEVELED WITH DIRTY HITS FROM DIRTY HABS.
LONG LIVE JAMAL MAYERS.

YOU GET EVEN LOUDER BY BOLDING THE CAPS!
I’m with you on Jamal Mayers. He’s a top notch team guy.

I don’t, Jamal Mayers sucks.
That Kostopolous fight was the only good thing I saw from him all year.

Anyone think Wilson is taking a new approach – public praise – in an effort to light a fire under Mayers? One fight aside, he’s been pretty dreadful on the ice. I wonder how much he has left in the can.

He was a lot stronger after the trade deadline. Apparently he asked for a trade because he was unhappy with his role so you could be right that this is an attempt to get him going.
Greg Brady thinks it’s plumping him up for a trade.

I’m all in favour of a pump and dump for Mayers. His cap hit isn’t too prohibitive at $1.33M and he’s a pending UFA.
Maybe there’s a team out there willing to throw a pick at the Leafs in return for some veteran leadership and, um, yeah, veteran leadership.

We need to get Brady to join PPP. He is one of the few toronto sports media guys I actually like

Hockey psycho lady or something rather is following you, right? That right there means someone is reading/stalking your tweets.

He can start all he wants, we need to get next year’s second round pick back (and hopefully much higher than we would have had), so that the first of the 3 major reasons to hate the Kessel trade dies. :)

Wouldn’t that be the third reason? Or are you more irked about the second-round pick for some reason?

No, there’s just no way we’re getting a first for Mayers, let alone Mayers alone for a second. However Bryan “The Genius” Murray just publicly trashed Neil after signing him, so, you never know……..

Hey guys, I know this is way off topic but I have to ask.
I was watching Leafs Lunch on Leafs TV on saturday and they were interviewing Brian Burke, one of the callers said he wasnt sold on the trade just yet and gave a shout out to pensionplanpuppets.com. Anyone know who that was?

I like Jamal Mayers, I guess, but…
Jamal doesn’t need to prove anything.
… doesn’t this go exactly against the whole Burke/Wilson “accountability era” thing?
Doesn’t everyone on the team need to prove something, even if they’re veterans? Isn’t that the whole point?

I read this on yahoo yesterday

I think DGB makes that five.

Seems like he’s proving it.

I agree, im sure Mayers is working as hard as anyone else, he has always been known to be a guy who works hard. I think the 4th line needs veteran experience anyways, I dont see why you would have a kid on that line who would be better suited for full time AHL duty or top 6 minutes with the Leafs.
Orr – Primeau – Mayers is a solid 4th line

The only kid I could see slotting into that line occasionally (due to the inevitable injury) would be Hanson.
"Hey, when I was traded, it was just a draft pick! What ever would you complain about if New Jersey had picked Scott Lachance?"
maybe, I see them bringing up Rosehill or Greenop even if they are going for toughness
