Maple Leafs Assign Four Players To Marlies
Looks like all of the players that the Leafs waived yesterday passed through without getting picked up:
Brian Burke, president and general manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs, announced Tuesday that the hockey club has assigned forwards Andre Deveaux, Alex Foster, Ryan Hamilton and Ben Ondrus to the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League. All four players will join the Marlies in time for the ‘Ice Hockey Homecoming’ tournament which begins Thursday, September 24 in Edinburgh, Scotland.
In 2009 preseason action with the Maple Leafs, Deveaux collected seven penalty minutes on September 16 versus Boston, Ondrus accumulated 12 penalty minutes on September 17 at Philadelphia, and Foster registered three shots on September 18 at Pittsburgh. Hamilton did not play in the preseason.
Article1 will be attending one of the Ice Hockey Homecoming games and I hope he'll have some pictures to share. In the meantime, I think that there is zero surprise that these guys got through waivers.

The cuts will get real interesting after the next couple of games. I don’t see how at least one NHL ready d-man doesn’t end up on the Marlies at least to start the year.
"Hey, when I was traded, it was just a draft pick! What ever would you complain about if New Jersey had picked Scott Lachance?"
Burke stated that they would carry 8 D into the season and if he can’t trade the 9th guy, he will have to clear waivers

Similar situation to Ilya Bryzgalov, then.
Who don’t we want?

Well, I would think it will end up being Van Ryn or Frogren.
Both are in their last year and there is a chance that neither of them will be picked up on waivers. (Van Ryn more so, injury concerns)

Splodeybones or no, I think someone’d take a flier on Van Ryn. Maybe not on the way down, but certainly on the way back up when it costs less. He’s good enough that it’s worth the risk.
Frogren I’m less sure about.

The game on Sunday evening clashes with the PPPPP draft. So unless the Marlies lose to the locals, I may only see two of their three games.
Although… I have no idea what I’m doing in fantasy hockey, so I might just remove Heatley, the Habs and the Sens from my player list and let the system autodraft me a team.
This weekend has three Leafs games, three Marlies games and two other games in the Hockey’s Homecoming thing. Roll on the hockey overdose.
