No pressure kid
Now you have to keep up with the goal scoring :)
He’s definitely earned it. Even though one of the Sabres’ goals could have been prevented by him doing some real backchecking instead of chicken scratching I think he’s improved his defensive play throughout the pre-season.

Hah No pressure, But keep scoring so we don’t end up with a low draft pick. Our hopes are on you!

Are you trying to show me that it isn’t all on him? cause I was kinda joking when I said that.
Besides No pressure and playing in Toronto is a bit of an oxymoron.

Kessel thrived with Lucic and Savard.
Stalberg’s scored a lot of goals by being in front of the net, he’s no Lucic in terms of punching people but we have Colton Orr for that.
Stajan has to be our best passer at this point and… I just realized I left Jason Blake off. Hrm.

That really doesn’t resemble the top and bottom 6 vision that Burke wanted to use though. Im not complaining with a lineup like that, but will it shake out that way?
Life as a Toronto Sports Fan?... *sigh*... It is what it is...
was just thinking that
it’s more of a “top 9/Bottom 3” scenario.
rolling three scoring lines would be sweet…

It would certainly hide our goaltending problems.

ill bet stalberg goes down tot he marlies when kessel is healthy, unless they waive or trade a vet

i’m not worried about our goaltending problems for multiple reasons:
- I believe in Vesa. Hoping it’s rust and things will get worked out so that he can pad his stats and be flipped for something useful come the deadline.
- I believe in Brian Burke’s ego. It’s huge. He’s stated publicly that we’re a playoff team, and unlike when Mo and JFJ were saying these things, I kind of think that if Toskala can’t shape up and is making Burke look bad, he’ll tell Wilson to bench him, or just waive him to the minors.
- Worst case scenario, he loses the starting job to Gustavsson. It’s not like we’ve got Raycroft or Cujo in the wings anymore…

exactly
and the first issue is key for me. I want Vesa to succeed, because I want something in return for him. In fact, I want his price to be inflated come the deadline.
Toskala’s future is not with the Leafs. HOWEVER, I seem to recall a lot of us were saying “TRADE TOSKALA” after Pogge won one game against a punchless Atlanta team. Let’s not put too much stock in these preseason games…

If he can get enough interest to bring something back in a trade, I’m all for it, but there has to be a drop-dead date on that experiment. Losing his cap hit (or half of it on re-entry waivers) would be addition by subtraction whether or not Gustavsson pans out.
by puckurgently on Sep 28, 2009 1:47 PM EDT up reply actions
i’m against the cap hit for nothing approach, however, given he’s on his last year, i think we could stomach paying 50% for the remainder of the season.

I’m usually against it too, but as you said, part of one season is fine. Especially when you consider that $2m of room could be put toward, say, grabbing the type of ace set-up man we’re missing for a serious playoff run if one doesn’t emerge from the ranks by the deadline.

Is Bozak for sure in? Him and Tlusty seem to be on the bubble. Personally, I’d be very happy to have Ty-Bo in the lineup full-time and have Tlusty on the Marlies.

Not for now I don’t think. Eventually though Bozak will be up.

yeah
we’ll definitely see players like Stepniak and Mayers up on the Leafs while Bozak gets 1st line center minutes with the marlies to start the season.

He was my favourite the moment I saw him live on his first shift in the rookie tournament, and now he’s my favourite new forward on the Leafs.

Gunnarsson has been playing quite well himself, also a JFJ pick. I think Gunnarsson really fits into this team moving forward.

We can do better than that.
From the intertubes on weapons manufacturers Sweden-
Bofors AB
Founded in 1873
Still in business.
Located close to the town of Karlskoga.
An hammer mill was founded at the Bofors waterfalls in the mid 1600s. Bofors became a limited company in 1873. In 1878 Bofors announced that they had succeeded in making the first sound high quality cast steel in the world, and the Swedish Navy ordered a 4 pdr piece to test this new steel. The cast was made in 1879 and machined by Finspong. It proved to withstand a pressure of 5000 atm, compared to the 3900 atm that the strongest pig iron gun from Finspong would handle. During the following years Bofors made a couple of trial guns, witch all seems to have been quite successful.
‘Barnekow cried for fourteen days because he could not manage to blow the gun to pieces. He was religious and did not dare to curse.’
In 1883 the Swedish Navy placed its first order for Bofors guns.
The first independent gun design was the 15 cm M/89 naval gun for the Göta class. In 1892 Bofors introduced its ingenious single-motion ogival breech-screw, adopted by the Navy as M/94, which put the company in lead of medium calibre naval artillery for decades.
Except for an experimental gun from 1893 the first Bofors-designed field-gun was the m/10 howitzer.
In 1895 the major owner, Alfred Nobel, had a powder mill built close to the original ironworks.
Also, Nordenfelt gun.
I suggest the M/86 Kanon. :)

What the non-union, Mexican equivalent of Viktor Stalberg might look like

Wings fan by birth. Leafs fan by truculent osmosis.
Stalberg
Is going to be a star. It’s so obvious.
I’m not sure if Bozak will actually make the team. It wouldn’t kill him to go down and play a few months on the Marlies anyway.
I want Rosehill to make the team. Not just as a fill in for Mayers or Orr either, but to stay up. He’s great/ Primeau needs to be put on waivers.
I loved watching this guy play in pre-season – I can’t wait to see what he does in the regular season. I’m glad to see he got the spot he deserves.

The top 3 “stars” picks for the pre-seaon for me were: 1 – Stalberg, 2 – Gustavsson, 3 – Gunnarsson.

Tempered Enthusiasum
Mikhail Grabovski scored 5 goals in preseason last year, and then went 12 regular season games without scoring.
Regardless, it’ld be impossible (and a huge mistake) to keep Stålbergout of the lineup.
