Around SBN: Jeremy Lin Continues Rampage, New York Wins On Road

Would be nice to be able to take a flyer on someone like him, though there's no room for him on the big club. Should we try to pick him up in hopes that a new environment (and Ron Wilson) eliminates his defensive problems? If so, who would he push down the ladder?

Part of me thinks we should pick him up, use him as the 13th forward (or sub-in 4th liner) until we know exactly what he can bring. Then either demote him (and risk losing him ourselves), or see if he develops into what he was supposed to once upon a time.

I'd rather take a chance on him than say Mayers. Thoughts? Yay or nay?

Nay

I’ve read a lot about Shremp through my travels in the Oilogosphere and the kid just isn’t that good. He’s a YouTube superstar that feasted on the powerplay in junior.

I wonder how much Burke would like to pick the kid up and turn him into a success, just to spite his former buddy…?

no

dude is as soft as they come. Scoring a lacross like goal is impressive, but not when you can’t put together anything else.

Schremp is a lot like Wellwood, but instead of a weight problem its a mental deal.
Skill for days, but he cant seem to put it together for more than a shift at a time.
Previous years I’d take a chance on him, but the Leafs already have too many players with a better chance of contribution.
although I wouldnt be against putting him on the marlies and seeing if he can get his shit together

I agree with all the above points

And like Jared would love to put him in the AHL, though that’s the same problem EDM has.

I just wonder what Wilson/Burke can do with a 23 yr old who has close to 2 PPG seasons in the AHL (though last year looks horrible and his +/- is dreadful).

You wonder what a new environment can do to people like this, especially under a strict defensive minded coach, who does allow for an offensive game.

If we could put him in the AHL, I’d jump on it completely. So to me, I’d take a chance on him, send down someone like Rosehill until the Schremp trial period is over, and then see what happens. The guy only has 7 NHL games spread over three years, let’s see what he can do. In the end it’s low risk, maybe high reward.

Plus, he’s American, and we seem to be building our own team USA.

Very skilled but his head doesn’t seem screwed on straight.

Wouldn’t hurt to have him on the Marlies, but I think he still needs work in order to become a contributing NHLer.

If we can pick him up for little or no cost or risk, sure why not.

Being a Leaf fan here requires one to be sufficiently lubricated... and truculent!

Schremp on waivers? Well it makes sense: he sucks.

You can bet Robbie is hoping for a change of scenery. I hope he gets one but with less than 2.5 hours left to go it doesn’t look good.

New linemate for Tavares ftw! I’m expecting a post about what a steal he is on the Isles site any minute.
