Around SBN: Why We're Skeptical Of LeBron James

Probably something we all anticipated but now it's official. I heard him doing a press conference on The Fan in Swedish but nothing in English. Here's the breaking news via Darren Dreger's twitter.

Not going to bother looking up the game, it was two seasons ago and the Leafs dumped on the Rangers. After the second period MSG was a ghost town – the only people left were the 5,000 or so Leafs fans in attendance. We chanted “GO LEAFS GO” non stop until the game ended. <3

Hats off.

One of the greatest players and classiest guys in the game. We were lucky to have him. Thanks, Mats.

and a little bit choked up, to be honest.

Very glad he’s doing this now and not letting it drag on into the season.

Go do whatever it is that makes you happy these days, Mats.

I’ve seen her. I’d poker too.

It’s unfortunate things ended so bizarrely between Mats and the Leafs.

In any case, thanks for the memories Mats.

I know the Leafs don’t really retire numbers but they really should and they should start it with Mats.

Bah, Im glad they don’t retire numbers, and instead Honour the numbers and the players. I don’t want to end up with the Habs and have some ridiculous number of Jerseys unavailable.

Most new players wouldn’t touch the great numbers anyways. Even though technically they aren’t retired I doubt you would see someone wear 93, 17 or 13 again anytime soon

by JohnnyG on Sep 30, 2009 9:49 AM EDT up reply actions

But you do have players wearing 1, 7, 14, etc that does the number no justice.
Johnny Bower and Raycroft both wore #1 for the Leafs. That makes me sad.

that's two quite distinctive hockey icons

hanging it up in the same week, Mats Sundin and Jason Allison Theo Fleury. While Matty Sunbeam may in fact be just getting around to announcing his retirement at the end of last season, I wouldn’t be so sure about Fleury yet. Rumours out of Montreal are that Gainey’s Canadiens may have contacted Fleury’s agent. Apparently the Canadiens are thinking of bulking up.

I prefer to think the last year with all the back and forth and Sundin signing with Vancouver didn’t really happen.

Enjoy retirement Mats, you were one of the best Leafs ever, and for that I thank you.

Being a Leaf fan here requires one to be sufficiently lubricated... and truculent!

I'm gonna get it for this one

I’m happy for the guy and he was my favourite player, but this would have meant A LOT more had he done this last year at this time
