Wendel would also probably spell “Lightning” correctly (multiple times), and not refer to a 30 goal, 65 game season as being a bad fit for his team.
Notice how you never see Wendel Clark and John Wayne in the same room together?

Not bottom 6 or top 6
He’s a very special, specific kind of forward, known as “middle 6”.

what if
Stajan follows Wilson’s fitness plan to the letter, and comes to camp more bulked up than in previous years?
I’m not saying he’s gonna rock JofL pythons, but h’es 5’1" and 200 lbs. he adds 5 lbs of muscle over the summer and ya never know. He’s only 25 or 26. Lot’s of players don’t start coming into their own until then. Could be that Stajan needs a little encouragement to reach his full potential, and that’s what Burke is trying to do.

Stajan could put on 30lbs of muscle, his size never really had anything to do with it. He is just kitten soft, doesnt initiate contact, doesnt grind and doesnt like high traffic areas. If he comes in this year with a changed game plan and starts muscling for the puck and playing lunch pail hockey, then he will get some respect

I uploaded 8 new pictures to Vintage Leafs this morning in addition to the 5 that I put up last night.
Hanson needs a nickname now too?
Let’s see. Han Solo? He did shoot first, and provided most of the Leafs’ offense on his own in the Bruins game.
‘Slap Shot’ may be too obvious, but I’m not sure.
Perhaps ‘Goggles’ in honour of his father’s fashion sense in the film? Might be too close to Giggles, though. Actually, saying “Goggles lays out Giggles” gave me a chuckle.
Maybe, as a different homage, something simple like ‘Chief’.

Yeah
So Burke is the GM of the Leafs, with full control and decision making power for hockey-related matters. He by all accounts has had an excellent summer in drafting new talent and signing significant free agents to help improve the Leafs defensively. He is revered by fans, respected by his peers and has the best job (or at the very least one of them) in the NHL.
Yes. Tough times indeed.
Being a Leaf fan here requires one to be sufficiently lubricated... and truculent!
I’m very disappointed in Spector for that article. Usually he writes much better quality stuff.

And trading away three draft picks in one fell swoop would be downright hypocritical, after all those lectures in which Burke scalded previous Leaf managers who had done exactly that.
Except I am not sure in what world the 21 year old 36 goal scorer Phil Kessel counts as a ‘quick-fix’ which, I’d like to remind Mr. Spector, is what Burke railed against previous regimes (rightfully) for doing. But hey, why let that nuance ruin a good story.

We need more of this in the MSM. An opinion piece, imagine that. Based on insight even.
Wow
Those comments are awesome.

Ha, whoops
Sorry, linked to wrong article (though that one is interesting in it’s complete and utter bullshitness). HERE is the one I meant to link. My bad.
Preview your posts kids.
heh
I was wondering, ‘cause there’s a major error in that one:
Or Stanley Cup championships for the Kings, even though Wayne Gretzky took them to the Finals in 1993.
Should read:
Or Stanley Cup championships for the Kings, even though Kerry Fraser took them to the Finals in 1993.

Ya, was meant to be sincere. I’m not sure I necessarily agree with Friedman, but the article itself is decent.
The other? Well, that’s just sad. (and for the record, it’s definitely top two of the worst sports articles I’ve ever read).
Friedman’s was the kind of writing that most Toronto guys could learn from. Thanks for the link.

here’s a scenerio for you: Tucker has a resurgence in Colorado this year. Then, Ottawa, desparate to make a push to the playoffs, trades a 2nd rounder for Darcy Tucker….

I just want to say, ever since someone suggested that Schenn looks like he doesn’t have a stick and he’s going to attack the words above his head, that’s all I imagine. When I see it, all I can hear is “I’m gonna get youuuu texxxt!” and I giggle

tonight's rookie game
Pretty sweet goal from Stefanovich, but Bozak looked very weak in defensive zone coverage on two goals. Basically got out-muscled by a couple Pens rookies I’ve never heard of. Team looked beat. Maybe three games in four days will do that to you.
